Run For Italy
FRIDAY 14 OCTOBER 2016
As you are aware, a powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck north-east of Rome, 11 km from Norcia at 03:36 local time (01:36 UTC / 11:36 Sydney-time) on 24 August 2016. The earthquake was in the mountainous terrain of central Italy where many small towns were devastated by the shallow earthquake, causing severe damage to buildings and loss of life.
The impact of the earthquake on communities affected will continue to be assessed in the aftermath of the quake. An initial report from the Government of Italy during the day stated that 159 people had been killed, 368 people injured and 1,100 homes damaged or destroyed.
At Infant Jesus we have decided to support those who have been impacted by their disasters by hosting a Correrer per Italia, ‘Run for Italy,’ event to help raise money for the people of this country – we hope that you can support us. At the completion of this activity the monies raised will be forwarded to Caritas Australia to use with the associated agencies in Italy.
The ‘Run for Italy,’ will be held on Friday 14 October 2016 at various times throughout the day. The children in Years 1-3 will run the event during their normal daily fitness times and Years 4-6 will run the event during the normal sport sessions on Friday afternoon. Pre-Primary children will run the event at a time convenient to them. Three Year Old Kindy and Kindy children will have a collection box for donations in their classroom. Children can run, jog, walk, skip etc around the track. Each child will receive a card to record the number of ‘laps’.
In preparation for this event, each student will receive a sponsor sheet. Please collect as many sponsors and/or donations as possible. You can start collecting today!!!
We ask that parents be aware of who and where their children are going to collect sponsors and donations. Relatives and friends are the safest people to ask.
Yours sincerely

Year of Mercy
YEAR THREE
On the December 8 2015 Pope Francis declared a Year of Mercy for the Catholic church. The 20th of November marks the end of this year and the Year Three children have discovered what it really means to be merciful, humble and forgiving.
The children have discovered what mercy is, listened to Pope Francis and reflected upon how they can act out the Year of Mercy in their lives. The Year of Mercy has been a major focus during class prayer this year and the children are excited to end the Year of Mercy with a pilgrimage next week to the holy door at Schoenstatt Shrine.
YEAR FOUR
The Year of Mercy is quickly coming to a close. The children have been made aware of this special year through a range of ways. It has often been a morning prayer focus and the children also made an art piece recreating the logo with their own creative ideas. Even through the year is ending soon, the message has been very important, that we need to do our best to care for those who need it.
