STEM

The Australian Government has committed an extra $12 million to restore the focus, and increase student uptake of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in primary and secondary schools across the country.

Why is STEM important?

STEM touches every aspect of our lives, from our smartphones to the technologies that enable us to explore the world around us and outer space. It also drives innovation in our fast-changing global economy. To succeed in this environment, our students need a strong foundation in STEM.

The Year Twos have created dioramas based on the ‘39 Storey Treehouse’.  They were required to work collaboratively in partners and formulate a plan of action as to how they were going to display the diorama and the materials they would require to ensure that their creation represented their plan.

Throughout the process the children applied their Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical knowledge and skills  as they planned, measured and then created their dioramas.  The children then shared their learning by writing about the treehouse level that their creation was based on.  The children then worked in greenscreen, with their partners, explaining why they chose that particular level.  The dioramas were finally displayed in the classroom on a cut out Storey Tree.
