Pius Students Give Thanks to the Great Men in Our Community

Every Bloke a Winner at the St Pius X College Father’s Day Breakfast

Set your alarms early this Friday and be first in line to grab breakfast and be entertained by the St Pius X College Guitar Ensembles. As you can tell by the photos, Mr Cranney’s guitarists are very excited to be supporting this wonderful P&F initiative. For all those surviving life without their dads, we give thanks to great uncles, teachers, grandads, brothers and friends.

Schubert, Liszt and Ledger (Sydney Symphony Orchestra)

Meet the Music an Evening of Pure Terror and Bliss

Last Wednesday 21 August our elective music students were once again spoiled by the phenomenal talent of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This time under the baton of Simone Young, our students were taken on a discovery of her Visions of Vienna. Please see the full review of the evening here: https://www.limelightmagazine.com.au/reviews/schubert-liszt-and-ledger-sydney-symphony-orchestra/

Our sincere thanks to the Music Curriculum Staff and parents for supporting Pius students in gaining valuable live-concert experiences.

Master Composer in Our Midst:  Miguel Alvarez Hits the Recording Studio

Year 12 Students are in the final stages of completing their major projects. Last Sunday Miguel Alvarez recorded his Major HSC Composition work for solo piano. This fast paced, rhapsodic masterpiece reveals the emotional beauty and creative genius of Miguel’s mind.  Once the recording is edited we look forward to sharing this with the entire St Pius X Community. Well done Miguel and thank you Mr Cummins for your recording expertise and professional support of Year 12.

Mozart’s Requiem Mass in D Minor K.626

Invitation to Take Part in the 2019 Combined Catholic Schools Choral Festival on Thursday October 24 at 7.00pm

Please find attached below the permission note for our St Pius X College musicians to take part in the 2019 Combined Catholic Schools Choral Festival on Thursday October 24 at 7pm. This event will be held at the beautiful St. Mary’s Cathedral and will entail choristers joining from many Catholic Schools to perform Mozart’s spectacular Requiem in D Minor K626. The festival will enable our boys to perform alongside professional choristers, under the instruction of Thomas Wilson. Schools involved include: Santa Sabina College, St Aloysius' College, Ignatius' College, Riverview, Loreto Kirribilli, St Clare’s College, Waverley, St Mary’s Cathedral School and St Pius X College, Chatswood. Proudly we are teaching our boys to sing 80 pages of Mozart’s Requiem Mass all four parts and Latin.  The late music educator, Richard Gill (O.A.M.) would be very proud of our students taking part in this musical, brain-boosting project.

As mentioned in earlier Woodchatta Bulletins, our first rehearsal is this Friday 30 August, 4.30pm – 6pm at St Mary’s Cathedral School. Pip and staff will provide boys with afternoon tea and escort students to and from this rehearsal. Transport will be via train to Town Hall.  Parents may collect their sons from Chapter Hall at St Mary’s Cathedral College School at 6pm, or, St Pius X College Music Department at 7pm. Boys need to pack their opal cards, warm jackets and a drink bottle.

While it is expected that our St Pius Choristers will take part in this amazing opportunity, all St Pius Performing Arts students are encouraged to be involved. (Insert permission notes and flyers here)
