Joggers Club

The ever popular Joggers Club continues again this year. The Club is open to all members of our school community including Mums, Dads, Uncles and Aunties. All you have to do to join is to come along on any week day morning before school and complete a leisurely circuit of our beautiful 1km Waverley Federation Circuit (including a lap of the oval). Individual tally cards are kept, and achievement certificates are presented at assembly, as various milestones are achieved. A great way to keep fit, not to mention the opportunity to catch up on all the goss. In a bid to encourage students to walk or ride to school, Ride/Walk/Scoot to School Passports are also available.  See me at the hall entrance to register.

Prep-2 Phys Ed

Physical Education sessions have commenced this week, with the emphasis at this early stage on the Basic Fundamental Motor Skills like running, jumping, dodging & leaping. The Perceptual Motor Program will also commence shortly, where we will be asking for some parental support.

Year 3-6 Sport/Phys Ed

Year 3/4 students will commence swimming sessions at Huntingtower next month. Year 6 students will be participating in an interschool-summer sport round robin in games of Cricket, Softball, Tee-ball, Danish Rounders and Hot Shots Tennis to be held at Jells Park. Preparation for our Annual Athletic House Sports will be the main focus in our PE sessions this term.

As you can see we have another BIG term in sport coming up !

State Schools Victoria Team Trials

School Sport Victoria will once again be offering the opportunity for students with emerging talent from Syndal South Primary School to register to trial for School Sport Victoria Team Vic State Teams in 2020.

Registrations to trial remain open until Sunday 1st March 2020 for Boys Australian Football, Netball, Boys Basketball, Girls Basketball, and Boys Football (Soccer).

Trails are not Come ‘n’ Try opportunities. They are a process for selecting a Team Vic State Team to represent the state at School Sport Australia Championships.

See me for more information or go directly to https://www.ssv.vic.edu.au/.

SDSSA Swim Trials

Those wanting to try out for the Syndal District Swim trials, need to provide me with their times over 50m, signed off by their swim coach, verifying those times.

PMP

We are once again seeking assistance with our F-2 PMP program. If you are able to help out, please let your class teacher know.

Sporting Schools

Sporting Schools is a national program available to all Australian primary schools. It aims to engage more children in more sport based activity within schools and then convert their interest into club based settings.  It will help children foster a lifelong interest in sport, gain a healthier mind and body, have fun and learn sport activities and games in a safe environment.

Sporting Schools is based on the Playing for Life philosophy which encourages children to have fun by focusing on skills not drills. Sport is known for its immense benefits to the development and wellbeing of children and young people. Sport not only benefits children’s physical health but plays a role in developing confidence, social skills and emotional wellbeing. By focusing on having fun, having a go and getting active, Sporting Schools will provide children with positive sporting experiences to help develop a lifelong interest in sport.

We had Danielle from Tally Ho Tennis Club & Jo from Softball Australia running clinics for our Year 3-6 students this week as part of the Sporting Schools program.

Our After School Sports program will commence here at SSPS on Wednesday 4th March and continue on for 4 weeks. We are offering two sessions this term, commencing with Softball for our OSHC Kids Sport on Wednesdays and Tennis/Cricket on Thursdays.

To register for the Thursday program, please complete the attached form and return it to the office.

SUNSMART

I know it’s a bit tricky to believe or even think about with this crazy, mixed-up weather but UV levels are extreme, so its ‘hats on’ time for us all.

Also remember to ;

1. Slip on covering clothing. If you can see skin, UV can reach it.

2. Slop on SPF 30+ or higher broad spectrum sunscreen. One application isn't enough so set up strategies for reapplication during the day.

3. Slap on a hat that shades the head, face, eyes, ears and neck.

4. Seek shade.

G.A.T.E.WAYS

G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education) WAYS will once again be offering students from our school, a variety of programs throughout the year. The programs are designed to provide gifted and talented children with opportunities for challenge and extension with a group of ‘like-minded’ peers. If you would like your child to be considered for such programs you should see your child’s classroom teacher. To find out about programs on offer, go directly to https://www.gateways.edu.au/ .

SSPS Dad’s Army

Calling on all Dad’s who want to enjoy the company of other Dad’s.
