Principal's Report

I must continue to mention how thrilled we are with the start of this school year. Congratulations to everyone! We had a great response to out Meet and Greet conferences on Wednesday evening, with parents taking up the opportunity to meet their child’s new teacher for 2020.

We are making some changes to our ‘Student of the Week’ award both to it’s purpose and to the format of the certificate so as to be more in line with the School-wide Positive Behaviour Support Program. There will be no Student of the Week awards given out at assembly until we have completed the changes.

Welcome Gathering

This year weather permitting we are having a welcome gathering for the whole school on Friday 21st February at the Oval from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner with a picnic rug, chairs etc. Sausages in bread and drinks will be available for purchase. The staff are organising some fun activities that will commence at 6.30 pm.  I am looking forward to catching up with you all.

Foundation Information Night

We held our Foundation Information Night to answer any questions and to highlight any routines or activities for our Foundations to further support their transition into school. The feedback that I have received from their teachers and the specialist teachers and what I witnessed firsthand is that they have all settled in beyond expectations. We are so lucky!  Thank you to our fabulous parents.  The Foundation Team who ran the information session did an awesome job.

School Council Membership in 2020/21

Becoming a School Council member is an excellent way to become involved in our school. Much of the work of School Council is achieved through the subcommittees of Facilities and Fundraising. School Council currently meets twice per term on a Tuesdays at 7.30 pm.

School Council Elections

The Notice of Election and call for nominations for School Council is attached to this newsletter and is also displayed in the Office. Interested members of the Syndal South PS community are asked to consider nominating for vacancies on School Council for the next two-year period.

Self-nomination forms are available from the Office. These must be lodged and placed in the nomination box by 4.00 pm on Thursday 20th February.  Nominating for School Council elections may be via self-nomination or approaching someone in your category of nomination to nominate you. In the event an election is required it will be conducted from Thursday 27th February with the ballot closing 4.00 pm Thursday 5th March 2020.

The current term of School Council ends for the following members: Aaron Sudholz, Maulik Shah, Raja Ravi, Michelle Shen (Parents), Kate Simpson and Tahni Ross (DET).

Continuing members who still have one year to serve on School Council are: Eric Zhang, Lisa Macdermott (Parents), Irene Antzoulatos, Helen Freeman (DET).

There will be two casual parent vacancies (1 year) created by Sandy Delaney and Nicki Harwood who no longer having students at the school.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 2019 School Council members for their commitment to SSPS. Your time and valuable contributions have been very much appreciated.

If you are interested in becoming a School Councillor but are not sure of the commitment or what is required, please speak to a current member of School Council listed above or to me personally. Retiring members may also renominate for election.

Finally, a little grouch ………… Can I please remind all families to label EVERY item that comes to school. Our Lost Property is already filling up with lunch boxes, drink bottles, hats and jackets. When items are named, it gives us the opportunity to return them to the owner, but without means of identification, clothes etc. pile up in Lost Property!

Please use a Sharpie or another permanent black marker to write your child’s full name inside the collar of jackets, the rim of the hat, and on all food / lunch items too. Thank you!

Have a great week.

Helen
