On the 13th of July 2022, Year 9 students took part in Experiential Learning Block as part of the Futures program to experience and discover real-world opportunities relating to their passions and interests. A group of 20 Year 9 students went to the University of Melbourne, Parkville, where they participated in a university presentation about courses and study pathways as well as a guided tour around campus.
This university presentation led by Chantelle was geared to help students consider courses
relevant to their interests and passions. It also provided information about prerequisite subjects required to enter a course; and therefore, prepares students as they make important decisions for subject selection next year. Through the guided tour students were informed about scholarship opportunities, options for living on campus and information about academic and social aspects of university life.
After spending half the day at the university, students then set off to Apprenticeships Group Australia (AGA) in Deer Park to learn about trade school opportunities and participate in a toolbox-making workshop. Chris from AGA explained the importance of safety, listening to instructions and putting in the hard yards to get more jobs and the jobs you want.
The day was not just an opportunity to step out of the classroom but more so an opportunity to step into a new learning environment. With senior years of high school not far ahead this Experiential Learning Day gives students a tangible idea of what life will be like after school and how they can prepare themselves to get into the career pathway of their dreams.
