Year 9 SMARTS – All Things Bikes

Over the last two weeks, the All Things Bikes Year 9 Smarts crew have had the opportunity to ride at the velodrome. The students have experienced the extremely light, fast track bikes – that also have no brakes!

The concept of riding around in circles was new (and a little bit scary) for the students. However, they all stayed upright and many were naturals! Towards the end of the sessions, many students had the confidence to increase the speed and start creeping a little bit higher up the side of the velodrome. We have been so fortunate to link up with the Alice Springs Cycling Club and appreciate all the time their volunteers assisted us with these sessions, as well as the use of their club bikes. This week students were guided on the track by past student and track super star – Clamarose Basso.

There are a number of past students now who are competing at State and National level – with more juniors coming through and joining in on the track riding. All juniors have the opportunity to join other juniors for skills development rides at the velodrome every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

All sessions are free, provided by qualified coaches and instructors, and all bikes and helmets are provided free for club members. You can check it out with a free 4-week trial if you are still not sure! More information can be provided by Miss Shearer if you are interested.
