Our Adventure to CERES

As part of our inquiry focusing on rights and responsibilities using the provocation "I can do what I want but...", the JLA went on an excursion to CERES Community Environment Park. This acted as a Tuning In activity to get students thinking about their responsibilities as stewards of creation.

It was an extra exciting day for the grade ones as it was their first excursion ever and for some of them, it was their first time going on a bus!

We got to explore CERES and do three fun activities.

In one of the activities we learnt about how paper is made and how paper can be made of more materials than just trees. Perhaps ask some of the JLA students what else paper can be made out of. We needed to embrace our collaborative skills to make some of our own paper which we will be bringing home when it finally dries. We couldn't believe what a long process it is!

Another activity we did required our collaborative skills again and our creativity to explore the area and find various things, such as greenery and minibeasts, to go into the compost to help make some rich soil.

The third activity we got to participate in was going on a walk around CERES and along Merri Creek to collect some landfill to help the environment and learnt about the Litter Trap which helps keep landfill out of our waterways.

At the end of the day, we learnt the 6 R's dance to help us remember how to help the environment and reflected on all of the fun we had and other cools things we got to see. Ask a JLA to show you the dance! #RefuseRethinkReduceReuseRecycleRot

Well done to the JLA for representing SJW so well at CERES and being so fantastic on their first excursion. Thank you so much to the mums who came and help us stay safe and have a fun day!
