Principal's Message

Good afternoon parents and carers,

Today brings a close to the 2020 academic school year at St Philomena's Catholic School.

The final weeks of school have provided our students (and families) with the opportunity to participate in a range of end of year celebrations.  Secondary Disco, Primary Disco, Year 10 Graduation Dinner, Year 6 and Year 10 Graduation Mass and Awards Ceremony, along with a Year 6 Pool Party, are all examples of opportunities provided for our students and families to enjoy a sense of 'normal' at this time of year.  Thank you to all involved for enabling these events to take place.

I am excited to announce our Professional Learning Community for 2021.  Although we are still organising students into classes for 2021, I can confirm the following Leaders of Learning on year group classes:

End of Semester 2 Reports have been uploaded to the Compass Parent Portal.  Similar to Semester 1, the school will only be providing digital copies of students reports via the Compass Parent Portal.  Parents have the opportunity to download and print hard copies of their students reports on their home printers.  Semester 2 Reports have a similar look to the progress reports of Semester 1, Working Towards, Working At & Working Beyond, however, also provide a five point scale within those learning domains.  Student's are positioned within this five point scale based on their academic achievement in that curiculum area throughout the semester.  The Application to Learning section on the report (for each Key Learning Area) provides parents with a summary of how their child has applied themselves (Learning Behaviours) throughout the semester within each KLA.

Although the Semester 2, 2020 Report does not provide a 'General" comment, it does provide parents with a concise understanding of how their child is developing academically (measured against stage outcomes) and how their child has applied themselves within both the learning environment and the greater school environment (school life) throughout the semester.

Finally, on behalf of all the staff of St Philomena's Catholic School, I would like to wish all our families a safe and wonderful Christmas and New Year.  Although 2020 has been a challenging year for all of us, it has taught us to cherish the time we have with our loved ones.  This Christmas should be no exception.  Merry Christmas and I look forward to seeing you all back at school for the 2021 academic year.

May the light of love shine upon you,

and may your life be filled with blessings

in this Christmas season.

God bless
