Inside the Classrooms & Around the Grounds

Each week the Year 2 students have been working together to work on team building skills. They have created chatter boxes, built marshmallow towers, and have tried the cup stacking challenge over the last few weeks. Teams have had to work together, negotiate, share, and listen to each other.

Students in Year's 5 and 6 have been learning about what makes them all unique and different to everyone else. Of course, during this we have discovered that we are all unique in our own way and that is great! It would be a little boring if we were all the same! Students created a special garden of flowers representing them, every flower in this garden is different. They did a great job!

Year 6 students have been working on their Leadership roles and learning to be great Syndal South Leaders. Students had to write about the leadership qualities they had.  To be a great leader it is important to make good use of your diary so you are organised. Students bring their diary to school every day and make sure they put all important information in there. Students in this photo are writing down their special Rocket article due date. Coming up in the Rocket over the next month are articles written by students telling you a little more about them selves and the important role they will play in assisting in the day to day organisation of school. Keep your eyes out for that and make sure you say hi to your Year 6 student leaders when you see them!

On Thursday the 11th of February, the Year 3 and 4 students participated in an interactive WebEx, learning about how to identify fake news or misinformation online.

As part of our Lunar New Year celebrations at school, the Year 3 and 4 students enjoyed some friendly games of Chinese Dominoes.

District Swimming

SSPS had 12 students participate in the Syndal District swim trials held at Huntingtower last week. All students participated to the best of their abilities, with many swimming PB’s. Congratulations to Benjamin who has qualified for the Divisionals to be held in early March. Huge thanks to parent Alex McDonald for taking on the Team Managers role for the day.

Ride/Walk to School

We have had 45 students sign up for our on-line Ride/Walk to School program. Remember anyone can sign up, including Mums & Dad’s, little brothers & sisters & Grandparents. The more we have sign up, the greater our total & the more we are doing to help the environment & our own health & wellbeing. Not to mention the spot prizes & achievement certificates that may come your way. So far our total stands at 262 which if equating to kilometres, would take us to Bairnsdale – Let’s see how far we can get?

All you need to do, is click on the Link here or access any of the QR Codes around the school for your chanced to win. Our first spot prize winners for 2021, of a Sun Smart Pack are Sophie in FR & Abhiyaan in 2PH – CONGRATULATIONS!

House Sports

Year 34 Sport - Shotput
Year 34 Sport - Shotput

Our Annual House Sports at Waverley Athletics Track are to be held on Friday 5th March. One of the highlights of our sporting calendar, it promises to be even bigger and better than before. I’m excited – I hope you are too. Put the date down into your diaries now.

I will be asking for lots of parental assistance on the day, so if you are able to help, please send me an email to let me know.  Ideally, we require at least 4 parents with each year level. The more helpers we get, the more we will be able to share the load. You get to follow your child around the different events, helping out as you go. It’s a most rewarding experience, one that I’m sure you will enjoy. Thanking you in anticipation.

Yours in sport,
