Harmony Day

Dear Parents, Guardians and Grandparents,

Syndal South’s School Representative Council  (SRC) are excited to be organising Harmony Day 2021, to be held on Friday 19th March.  Harmony Day is a celebration of cultural diversity and peace.  The theme for this year’s Harmony Day across Australia is “Everyone Belongs”.

We will be hosting small groups and whole school activities including singing, craft, games, dancing and historical presentations.  Students from SRC in Years 3-6 will be either leading or supporting the organisation of these activities.  We will be showcasing many countries from around the world.  The SRC would really like if there are parents / grandparents who would be available on the 19th March to help lead activities by sharing their knowledge of their culture. Parents could help by:  dressing in costume and talking about their traditional dress, teaching a specific dance, singing traditional songs, craft activities, games etc.

If you are available to help our SRC host activities on Harmony Day, please contact Rebecca Stonehouse–Melke on 9802 5277 as soon as possible.

We look forward to your responses.

From the Library

Welcome back to the school library for 2021!

This year students return to regular weekly class visits to the school library. These sessions provide students with the opportunity to borrow, read and share a variety of books and stories.

LOOP Bookclub also returns providing families with the opportunity to buy new books at reasonable prices, at the same time, supporting the school library.

Scholastic LOOP Book Club 2021

Our school is participating in Scholastic's LOOP Book Club this year. Up to twice a term, during the school year, a Club catalogue with a different selection of books offered for all ages will be sent home with your child/children.

It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. (See Flyers for further details.)

Issue 1 catalogue of LOOP is available online now @ https://www.scholastic.com.au/media/5791/bc121.pdf with all ONLINE orders due by 4pm Friday 19 February, 2021

Children's Book Week - August 21st - 27th, 2021 is a highlight of the Library/Literary calendar. This year the theme is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.

Australia Reads will take place on Thursday September 16th, 2021 along with many other exciting literary events that I look forward to sharing with you all.

Happy reading from

CSEF - Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund

Every Victorian child should have access to the world of learning opportunities that exist beyond the classroom. The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps ensure that no student will miss out on the opportunity to join their classmates for important, educational and fun activities.

CSEF is provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means-tested concession card or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible for CSEF. The allowance is paid to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions or sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

Application forms are available at the office.  If you received CSEF in 2020 you do not need to reapply.
