Circuit Reset!

by Helen Freeman, Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your patience and support as we found ourselves in lockdown again, this time just for a short circuit breaker. There was a collective sigh of disappointment as we heard the news on Friday afternoon.

Taking into account the planned length of the school closure, the school issued a series of learning activities for students of all ages. If the school closure had been extended there were plans in place for teachers to provide more tailored learning experiences to their students.

The Department has issued a reminder to school communities concerning mask-wearing that the following actions are mandatory. Individuals aged 12 years and older must always carry a face mask.  Face masks must be worn indoors by adults but are not required outdoors except where physical distancing of 1.5 metres cannot be maintained. That parents are welcome on-site, which means parents can enter the school grounds for school drop-offs and pick-ups. Families are required however to maintain 1.5 metres between each other.  We ask that parents leave the school grounds by 9am. Parents are not to enter the classrooms or school buildings (other than the school office) unless they have an appointment.  If parents need to speak to their child’s teacher, please either ring or email to make an appointment.

We had wonderful attendance at our assembly on Monday where Matt Fregon MP, our local member, presented all our wonderful Foundation students with their new Library Bags. Inside the bags, there were several picture storybooks, stickers, and a fun activity book. I know from talking to Matt this opportunity is one of his favourite parliamentary duties.

G.A.T.E. (Gifted and Talented Education) WAYS will once again be offering students a variety of programs throughout the year. The programs are designed to provide gifted and talented children with opportunities for challenge and extension with a group of ‘like-minded’ peers. If you would like your child to access such programs you should visit the Gateways website to find out about the programs on offer  https://www.gateways.edu.au/.

The school does participate in the Team Challenges that Gateways offer later in the year, more information regarding this will be available later. Mr Philpotts is the Coordinator of G.A.T.E.  WAYS this year.

Congratulations to Benjamin, who has qualified for the Divisional Swim Carnival to be held early next month. Syndal South had 12 participants in the District trials, held at Huntingtower Aquatic Centre last week. Huge thanks to parents Alex and for assisting on the day.

Students in Years 3 to 6 have had the opportunity to try out for Syndal South's Aerobics team for this year. The teams have been finalised and now the hard work begins. We are looking forward to seeing the teams develop through their rigorous practice schedule as they work towards the competitions.

Finally, I would like to let all families know that we are rescheduling the Welcome Picnic, planned for Friday 26th February, due to the current restrictions. The new date will be advertised as soon as it becomes available.
