CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR YOUNG CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - DANNI AMOR

Danni is a very committed young lady - committed to giving back.

She is a Scout, a volunteer and a great sportswoman.

Many describe Danni as a quiet achiever who is always there working in the background not trying to take the limelight. She gives her time selflessly to those who need it and never bats an eye when asked to help.

Although she has been unable to participate in her favourite sport due to a knee injury. Danni has still been helping others where she can.

Danni is a member of the Korumburra Scouts where she has been part of a setting up the Scout Hall for Australia Day events, serving customers at Coal Creek every month at the BBQ, writing the schedule for the Scouts on a chalkboard, preparing maps and counting out phone books and helping with the clean up after Scouts is over.

On top of Scouts, Danni also volunteers giving help to those with disabilities. Her sister has autism and Danni is a huge support for her. While taking care of her sister, she usually also supports two other individuals who have intellectual disabilities.

The work she does for those who are vulnerable are less able to help themselves does not go unnoticed or unappreciated. She is a selfless young lady who does her community proud, even though she is not very old.

Danni is pictured below with Council CEO, Kerryn Ellis and Deputy Chair Administrator Christian Zahra.

Year 12 Retreat

Our Year 12 retreat was a bit different this year, the students were divided into two groups Cameron and Chisolm, MacDonald and Tenison, with both groups attending one night, and completing leadership activities.

Year 8 Waratah Beach Camp

On Wednesday 3rd February the Year 8 cohort and 18 staff members headed to Waratah Beach Camp for 3 days. The camp is designed to provide all students with opportunities to build upon new and old friendships. Throughout the camp students rotated through a range of activities including the Flying Fish (Giant Swing), Abseiling Wall, Aeroball, initiative courses and an introductory surf lesson. These activities are designed to further challenge and develop team building skills, group identity and the self-esteem of our students. Students also participated in a walk to Chicken Rock to explore the rock pools, as well as sunset liturgy on the beach. I would like to congratulate the Year 8 cohort on their positive and enthusiastic approach throughout the camp and again thank the staff members who attended.

LIBRARY NEWS

Library Lovers' Day

This week in the Library we have been celebrating Library Lovers' Week. Library Lovers' Day is usually held on February 14 but as that falls on a Sunday this year we decided to celebrate what students love about the Library all week!

Students were invited to use dry erase markers to write positive messages and pictures on the Library windows about why they love the Library. They were rewarded with a chocolate for wonderful thoughts and images.

Comments included "I love books", "I love to study in the Library" and "I love the Library as it is full of knowledge". Everyone had a great time filling up the windows with messages about how great the Library is.

Knitting Club

TheKnitting Club also kicked off in the Library with an enthusiastic bunch of staff and students learning to knit and beginning the creation of beanies and scarves. They were all smiles as they chatted over lunch with their knitting needles clicking away.

Any students who are interested in being a part of the Knitting Club can simply come to the Library at lunchtime on a Wednesday and join in the fun.

Debating

This week was also the first meeting for the Debaters for 2021. Many keen students signed up with competitions starting soon.

Any students that are interested in being a part of debating in 2021 should contact Mrs King or leave their name with me in the Library.
