MERCY CAMPUS NEWS

WELCOME AND NEW STAFF

Welcome back to school and especially to the Mercy Campus for 2021. It has been great to see everyone ready to start the year on a positive note.

A new year often brings its own little challenges, and it has been great to see so many students have a really positive start to the year. As the new Head of Mercy Campus I have found this to be very rewarding and commend the Year 8 students on this.

As well as a new group of Year 8 students, 2021 brings many new staff to the Mercy Campus. Along with myself as Head of Campus we have Ms Brittany Burns, Assistant Head of Mercy Campus, Mr Sam Chisari, Pastoral Care teacher to 8K students and a number of teachers based at the Enright Campus travelling to join us in teaching Year 8 students, either for the first time or ‘seasoned travellers’.  We are looking forward to working with the existing campus staff in assisting your students to strive for happiness, success and excellence.

SAVE THE DATE

Please put in your calendars Wednesday March 3. This is our Information Evening, you will be given key details about your student’s time at the Mercy Campus as well as information for the Grampians Camp and the option of a campus tour.

GENERAL REMINDERS

A few reminders as we start the year:

  • Your student’s Pastoral Care Teacher for 2021 will play a similar role to their Homeroom teacher, they will be your first point of contact when working with the college.
  • Vehicle access to the campus is one way – entering via the Eleventh Street gates and exiting onto Riverside Avenue. Please DO NOT park in front of the gate waiting for it to open at the end of the day as this blocks access for the bus.
  • When picking up students during the day please park in the front car park on Riverside Avenue and collect your student from the office inside the foyer. Please do not park across the road as this causes a danger to students when crossing.
  • Advise college reception when your student will be absent for the day, this allows roll marking and notifications to be accurate.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP

Developing student leadership and responsibility is an important aspect of student life at the Mercy Campus. This process began last year when as Year 7s the students nominated, spoke, interviewed and voted for Mercy Campus leadership positions. I am pleased to announce the 2021 Mercy Campus Leadership Team:

Campus Captains – Sebastien Klarich and Evie Oldham

Vice Captains – Juliet Moodley and Anastasia Vagelatos

Academic Captains – Archie Conner and Sumaya Maaroof

Sport Captains – Kade Ferguson, Taylor Gregg, Ethan Gibson and Alice Rodgers

Arts Captain – Maddison Brown

Mercy Action Group Captains – Jordan McKenzie and Koko Johnson

Congratulations to these students your enthusiasm and dedication is a delight to watch develop. These students will be a key link between students in pastoral core groups as well as to the students at the Enright campus and hold a true genuine voice as to what happens at the campus. I cannot wait to start working with these students and see what they can do.

WELLBEING DAY

On Friday February 19 students participated in a Wellbeing Day. Students had the opportunity to be involved in a range of activities from passive to active. The sessions were run by teaching staff and members of the wellbeing team, I am grateful for their time, expertise and commitment to the wellbeing of our students. Students worked through the following sessions within their core groups – Resilience, Rock and Water, WDP Card Game (a game of choice), Martial Arts, a Beyond Blue activity on self-esteem and Awake and Mindful. Students are to be commended on their conduct and involvement on the day.
