A reflection on our first year as an IB World School
As the first year of our IB Diploma Programme journey draws to a close, I reflect on the year that has been with an overwhelming sense of pride. Our students have investigated mathematics, spoken and written in a second language, designed and conducted scientific experiments, delivered oral commentary on literature, explored geography, business and politics, created beautiful art and music, presented their thoughts on a well-researched knowledge issue and have worked collaboratively to promote caring for others. A remarkable effort! They have worked hard and they have embraced each opportunity to learn and grow. More importantly, the students have connected genuinely with each other, they have supported each other and they are authentically considering their place in the world and how they can contribute in positive and meaningful ways.
Our IB staff have worked tirelessly with their students throughout the year to provide rich and productive experiences and to individually support each student in their learning. They have challenged the students to be knowledgeable, thinkers, inquirers, principled, communicators, open-minded, balanced, caring, risk-takers and reflective. A sincere thank you for their ongoing commitment.
The learning partnership is not complete without our parents and the essential support provided from home. The IB journey is challenging and rewarding. Parents have no doubt worked through tears and anxiety at times and have celebrated triumphs with their children. Take heart, we are more than half way through the journey and your care and support has been most appreciated.
I look forward to welcoming our next group of IB students in 2021. They have already impressed with their enthusiasm during the Year 10 Building Success Program. The students have engaged positively in each introductory lesson, with a commitment to preparing for their learning and putting their best foot forward.
Our first year as an IB World School has been a success and membership in this global community of educators, particularly in the year we have had, has certainly broadened our world view and I very much look forward to continuing this journey next year.
