Year 4/5 Camp - Port Hughes

The Year 4/5 Fisher classes went went to a camp at Port Hughes (Yorke Peninsula). During the problem solving activity we played many different games but my favourite was the hula-hoop cross the river because it involved a lot of teamwork and communication. When we went rock pooling at the one of the beautiful beaches at Port Hughes, we saw so many little creatures such as mini crabs, and mini jellyfish and many more. My team was the only one team to successfully have a floating raft with people on it, using many different kinds of materials. When went snorkelling the water looked so cold and our group saw so many different types of fish. On that day we also went fishing and some of us even caught fish and squid. The meals we had were amazing for dinner over the two nights.

Year 4/5 Ayers House / North Terrace excursion

When I went to the library in the city I loved the old books and I really wanted to read them but we weren't allowed to. When I was in Ayers house we had to do a dance that is similar to how they danced in the past. It has been 166 years and 90 days since Sir Henry Ayers and his family lived in Ayers house. There is only one Ayers family member left and he is 70. I would recommend going to Ayers house because it would be a fun experience for the kids and family. I give Ayers house a 5 out of 5.

Year 4/5 Basset Boys incursion

The best thing about the incursion was when we played the games like marbles and spinning tops. I also liked when we used the ink pens.

In the Basset program we learned about what school day was like in the 1800s. When we arrived we got given school uniform but of course what they wore in the 1800s. They girls wore bonnet’s skirts and pinafores while the boys waistcoats, breeches and caps. The outfits were quite weird and unique. We got to try using ink and pen and wrote our names while the rest of the class was using chalk and slate. Before the end of the session we got to try some games that were played in the 1800s including marbles, spinning tops and many other cool games. I really enjoyed this experience and hope to do it again some other time.

I liked when we dressed up and went outside and marched in to Mellor. I also liked playing with the old fashioned games.

At the end of term 2 the Basset Boys School came to our school for part of our HASS learning. The Basset Boys School is a program that teaches children what it was like for kids at school in the past. It was an educational and exciting experience. We played old games and we used an ink pen. We learned more about the cane (and some of us got it). We got to dress up into old clothes and wore old hats. We had fun laughing at each others clothes because we thought they look silly. The girls could barely lift their knees because the skirts were so tight. It was a unique experience that we will never forget and we are so grateful to the teachers and the Basset Boy School for giving us this experience.

For an incursion everyone got to experience how school was in the 1860’s, First we went to the Mellor building and when we got there the teacher from the incursion put us in a line and she checked our nails and hands. When we got inside we put on a costume of the school uniform they had in the 1860’s. We then took a seat and learnt reading, cursive writing, and arithmetic. After the learning we got to play a game that they used to play, (I played one where we spun something and saw who could spin theres for longer (I won).

Year 6/7 Camp - Yorke Peninsula

The seniors camp to the Yorke Peninsula was the first time I had slept in a tent. It was an interesting first experience for me and even though it wasn't as comfortable as sleeping in a bed or living in a building, it was a great camp nonetheless. The camp provided a great variety of food and activities. It made us do things that we may not normally do during our normal lives in the city. It was something fun that I did with my friends and I don't regret going. I think that if you have the opportunity to go, you should try it.

The 2021 Yorke Peninsula Camp was a good experience for most and not so good for others. But personally I think that this camp was great except for a few things but we did get to have lots of fun and have different experiences such as snorkelling, surfing, rock-pooling, rock climbing and seeing how it is to camp having food made there. It was also a bit weird for some people sleeping in tents, not seeing your parents and eating your dinner and food on the ground but overall the camp was a great experience.

I really enjoyed camp and I wish I could go back there and relive all of the great times I had with my friends and teachers. I really enjoyed the activities and the boogie boarding was my favourite activity.

- Kosta F

The camp to the Yorke Peninsula was exciting as we got to try new experiences. It was also fun to be able to play and socialise with friends. The activities were fun to do as we were able to do many things. The food that we ate was good and tasted nice.

The camp to Hillocks Drive was an enjoyable experience as I got to be fit and do things that I liked. There were a few things that I didn't enjoy but that doesn't matter. The main point was, I had fun and would do that again if given the chance.

- Hunter M

The Yorke Peninsula camp was fun and I learnt lots about the area and other stuff. Some of the activities we did there were rock pooling, hiking, surfing and snorkelling and they were all fun to do. At camp I also learnt how to put up a tent as well!

Year 6/7 Reflections

The day on the Karrawirra Pari excursion with our little buddies was very fun! It was a time where we could go and see the real world. The nature was very beautiful. All the activities we did where very fun including the hunt for the pictures of type of birds, the fun games that we played called 'Gitja' which was like a cat and mouse and the mouse was in the middle and the cat was trying to get in the circle. It was a very fun day I really enjoyed it I would love to do it again!

- Katiya G

The day when we went to Karrawirra Pari was really fun we got to bond with our buddies and learn new things about them. It was also very educational and we got to learn about the spot we were at and got to do fun activities with our buddies. Over all it was a fun experience for all who went!

- Vasilia G

My Buddy and I enjoyed all the fun activities, recording down the birds and the enjoyable nature. We had fun making Mandalas, Creating Woodies, and having a fun scavenger hunt.

- Yanni & Emma R7

The walk around the River Torrens with our buddies was a really fun and a memorable experience. It was good to learn more about the Kaurna language and culture. My favourite part was building shelters out of any sticks and leaves we could find on the ground around us. I also really enjoyed the Kaurna word scavenger hunt where we had to translate and find the hidden message.
