ONLINE LANGUAGE INCURSION

On Monday afternoon, our Year 11 Japanese students participated in an online language exchange incursion, meeting with students from our sister school, Tokoname High School.

Lots of fun and laughs were had as the groups exchanged conversation in both English and Japanese.

Here are two student reflections on the experience:

"Due to Covid 19, Brighton’s annual trips between our sister school in Tokoname Japan, are unable to occur. However, on Monday the 19th of July, our Year 11 Japanese class participated in an online exchange with students at Tokoname high school.

It was our first time taking part in an online conversation together with the Japanese students. After a short exchange between the two principals of the schools, we began to have short conversations with the students. In a mixture of Japanese and English, both pairs of students were able to communicate with each other about our different hobbies, favourite foods and places we would like to go.

It was interesting to have a talk with the students and hear about their daily lives and the things that they enjoy. It also felt quite rewarding as I was proud to communicate mostly in Japanese with native speakers, discovering how much Japanese we have learned.

Overall I am really glad to have been given the opportunity to participate in the online exchange."

"Going into it, I was quite nervous but also very excited as I had been looking forward to the language exchange program the moment I had found out about it.

I was worried I might say something in Japanese that made absolutely no sense to the students, but in reality, they were just as nervous too, so it was quite relieving.

I really enjoyed the program as the students were super kind and they had tried their best to speak English, which my partner and I appreciated a lot!

Overall, I loved being a part of this program and meeting so many new people and would love to do it again someday!"
