INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS

Representing your school at District Athletics is a huge honour and all our students that competed in the Southport District Athletics event last week should be very proud of themselves. They not only achieved first place in our school but they competed against the firsts from all the other schools in our district. This alone is a huge effort. All of the Athletics team committed to extra practise at lunchtimes and some after school.

A special mention needs to go to:

Ellie T for getting a place in all of her events. 1st in 200m and 3rd in 100m and 2nd in team relay. Ellie has progressed to Division and will compete in the 200m dash event on October 11th.

After overcoming some nerves our very own Cleo surprised herself by placing  3rd in the 200m sprint. Abdul also got 3rd place for his age level. Ollie ran a huge race, he didn’t get a place but did it with a smile and a thumbs up attitude at the end.

A huge congratulations to all the long and middle distance runners, these events require courage to enter and great stamina and perseverance to complete. Rupert, Bronte, Alberta, Amelie, Cedric, Ginger

and Margad gave it their all. Resulting in a 3rd place for Bronte and admiration for all from the rest of the team.

The Field events of high jump, triple jump, long jump, shot put and discus are very technical and require a lot of practise and years to master. Tex, Tavi, William HK, Taimane, Anamieka, Ryan, Will L and Alberta all braved these events, they didn’t get a place but it wasn’t about that. These students showed something greater than a ribbon and that was courage, strength, resilience and great sportspersonship.

Our hurdlers Cleo, Ryan, Amelie and Will L, had only trained on lower hurdles. They overcame the much higher hurdles while racing with ease.

Our Relay teams got around each other and formed a great bond. Team Meika, Georgia, Cleo & Ellie got 2nd place and Team Bronte, Gael, Rupert & Abdul were up against tough competition and still managed to sneak in 3rd place.

The highlight of the day for me was, win or not each member played as a team and supported one another, whether it was cheering on from the sidelines or a hand on the back of a mate, they were there for one another.

Thank you to Mr Beattie, Justin, Freya Owen and Nathaniel for giving up their day to support this event and for Mr. Vines. Ms. Arnold and all the parents who came to cheer us on!

THANK YOU NATHANIEL

A huge thank you to Nathaniel who has been volunteering in PE lessons since 2019. Nathaniel has become a much-loved member of our school community. Nathaniel will now take some time to work on his career. We wish him well in his future endeavours and are very happy that we will still see him working at Theircare.

FOOTY COLOURS DAY

What a wonderful array of colours we had at school today. It was wonderful to see everyone celebrate the end of term 3 wearing their footy colours and take part in some fun games.

Wishing everyone a happy and restful holiday.
