INSPIRING CURIOUS MINDS

YEAR 3 - 6 NEWS

3-6 students have loved learning about Australian climates and sustainability this term in Curiosity. We had a wonderful expo on Tuesday with the students launching their sustainable houses, which were designed and built for specific climates in Australia.

CERES EXCURSION - MULTI AGE TEAM

by Minh Anh, Year 6

On the 22nd of August, Monday, me and the rest of Multi-Age went to Ceres, a environment park in Brunswick. Early in the morning we assembled in the gym where the whole Multi-Age laughed and talked as we waited for our 2 buses to arrive. Soon, they were there, in the parking lot, waiting for us. Each class was then directed to a bus, following their teacher like a swarm of bees. Once we were on the bus, we were ready to go to Ceres!

When we arrived, all of us settled at the pavilion and were so excited! Talking enthusiastically like a bunch of chirping birds, until Cassie, Ellie & Megan arrived. They were our tour guides. My class, 5/6A,espescially had Cassie for the whole day. Once they've introduced themselves they taught us the 6R's which were Recycle, Reuse, Rot, Reduce, Rethink & Refuse.

Our first activity was to come up with a sustainable business idea! Cassie taught us that we as humans are disposing a lot of plastic and cardboard . So she told us to come up with a "creative" idea to solve this solution & the winner will get 1 million dollars (apparently). I was in a group with Henry G & Leila. We together came up with the Milk Jug! A portable metal jug that comes with silicone on the outside to hold it. Our other idea combining with it was a screwable lid under the jug for effective cleaning. After a very rough draft of our design, we presented it to the class.

There were a lot of creative and out-of-the box ideas from my classmates. One group even came up with a reusable bandage that can be washed in the dishwasher! I think it was very amazing that they thought of such an amazing idea! Which made the class burst into laughter. For the design competition, guess who won? My group! The teachers thought that our Milk Jug was a very superior idea and our team was very proud. I wonder if we're actually gonna get the 1 million dollars!!!

For our next activity we went to make bags from our used clothes! It was very enjoyable. We followed a procedure step by step with Cassie to create a bag ourselves! Although it was a bit weird, it was still enjoyable.

Our last activity was composting! Cassie taught us the process of composting. After explaining to us about it, we got to work! My group's job was to collect Nitrogen, which were fresh green leaves! Tania and I were very good at it lol.

After a long day, we were heading back to school. It was a very fun day I'm sure every single student that attended had a great time there and will always remember this amazing opportunity of going to Ceres, thanks to Cassie, Megan, Ellie and our amazing Multi-Age teachers!

HOOPTIME YEAR 3/4

On Monday the 12th of September, our grade 3/4 students participated in a HoopTime basketball tournament held at MSAC. Students competed in a round-robin format consisting of up to five intense games against schools within the Southport District. All students participated, displaying our school values 'Play as a team' and 'Be involved', through great sportspersonship and inspiring cheering from the sidelines. Our very own SMPP Pacers and Panthers both made it into the semi-final with the Pacers team finishing the day undefeated as they hooped to an inspiring Grand Final victory. It was a special moment to see all 3/4 students run to the middle of the court to celebrate the Grand Final victory of the Pacers team. It was a fun filled day out at MSAC!
