Technology Faculty

There have been plenty of things happening in the Technology area this term. This year we have a Systems Engineering class in Year 11, which provides a VCE pathway for students in our junior STEM classes. Students in this class have been busy this term working through developing and designing electronic systems and making use of our STEM resources such as the laser cutter and 3D printers to protype and produce their designs.

In Year 12 Food Studies, students have been looking at developing their skills in assessing food information and claims made by weight-loss companies. This is a key component of VCE Food Studies, which is designed to build the capacity of students to make informed food choices in real life. Students recently completed a practical activity applying these skills to review a range of fad diets and weight-loss products including the Atkins Diet, the Carnivore Diet and weight-loss shakes.

Real world connections have also been a focus in the Digital Technology space. The Year 10 Digital Technology and Year 11 and 12 Applied Computing/Software Development students recently had a session with representatives from Federation University and IBM about the Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice) course. In this session, our students were given further information about their Professional Practice Program where students enrolled in the program are given the opportunity to work in a paid internship with IT companies such as IBM, while they study for a degree in IT. This was a great opportunity for students to consider future pathways in the IT industry.
