Book Week

Last week was Book Week so the Library had a range of activities to excite students about books.

During lunchtime on Tuesday we ran a Book Review writing workshop with a few good book reviews being submitted at the end.

Wednesday lunchtime saw students have fun competing in the “Illustrators Imagination Challenge”.  A fantasy character physical description written by Loretta, was read out one sentence at a time and students had to draw their own interpretation of the character while more details were being read out.  We had chocolates for prizes for the most accurate and most imaginative drawings as well as a lolly for everyone who participated appropriately.

Thursday after school 22 students participated in a dress-up afternoon tea in the Library.  We had some great costumes and a small parade where students had to guess who the character was or what book it was from.  The students also played a whole group game of guessing if a title was a correct Manga title or made up.  They did a “Manga March” game (a relay with jelly beans and chopsticks) and the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 6” game (using a knife and fork to cut up a block of chocolate and eat a square).  It was lovely to see the students being so supportive and encouraging of each other and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time.  Thank you to the parents who allowed their students to stay back until 4.30pm and participate.

We also ran a week long paper-based quiz with 14 questions about books, authors, characters and fictional places.  A final 15th question, asked entrants what they love about reading.  We are now working on a library display of those answers.  The winner of the quiz was Piper M from Year 7 who won a box of chocolates.  8 runner-ups (who got all answers correct) also scored themselves a small chocolate bar. Other entrants will each get a lolly for participating.  It was great to see so many students give it a go.
