NAPLAN results

We are very proud of our grade 3 and 5 students who achieved outstanding NAPLAN results this week. It is absolutely wonderful to see that their hard work in classrooms has set new standards for the school and is a pleasing result for their teachers as well. Children's results can be collected from the office and those that haven't yet will be mailed home next week.

It's survey time for staff and parents/carers

This week, our team have been busy completing the Staff Opinion Survey, which is conducted by DET every year. This information provides the school's leadership team with valuable feedback on aspects of the role, such as professional development, school culture/climate, instructional leadership and team collaboration.

Was your family randomly selected to participate in the Parent Opinion Survey? If so, we would love to hear from you. A huge thank you to those who have taken the time to complete the survey so far. If you would like help to complete the survey, including access to a device and internet, Nurta is available - please contact the office or find her out in the yard before/after school. The survey closes on Friday 16th September.

Toilets, toilets, toilets

We've had a busy week managing undesirable behaviours in our toilets that have resulted in several flooding incidents. With so many callouts to plumbers over the last few weeks, we now ask parents/carers to have a serious conversation with your child(ren) about the appropriate use of the school's toilet facilities and to reinforce expected behaviours. With so many children always doing the right thing, it's a pity that we need to continually revisit this however our plumbers are becoming exhausted!

Look what we found!

A couple of weeks ago, half of our staffroom on George St was lost when the builders put up a temporary wall to begin renovations on the future Communications (Comms) room. In this photo we can see Rod from ROAM Architects. All of the floorboards have been removed, revealing the foundations which appear to be in good condition. Interestingly, a beautiful old fireplace with original coals in it was hiding behind the wall! As the renovation works progress, all fireplaces that are found in good condition will be restored and kept on display for our new classrooms in the future. This is one little way that we can maintain a lovely connection to the the school's rich history. A great example of this is the beautiful fireplace on display at the school's front entrance.

We're moving back to Napier St!

The school has now been given a date by which we will start moving back to Napier St. From Wednesday 2nd November onwards, Napier St will be ready for us to start moving across.

To help us prepare for the move, we are seeking a team of parent volunteers to help us pack up books, activities and other resources. If you would like to help, please give your name to Mary in the office. We will begin coordinating the parent volunteer team next term as we know that teachers are aiming to be super organised for the big move.

Fitzroy Arts Festival - save the date and volunteers requested

Preparations are underway for a Fitzroy Arts Festival on Thursday 8th December in the Napier St building and grounds. If you would like to join the team and help us with planning, please let Mary know in the office or contact Bianca (Hana's mum) on School Council.
