Congratulations 'Newmo'!!

It is with great pleasure that we congratulate Ms. Sandy “Newmo” Newman for 35 years of esteemed service to Wangaratta High School.

A teacher of Heath and Physical Education for over 40 years, Sandy began her journey at Wangaratta High School back in 1986, joining the PE team from a teaching placement in New Zealand.

Now in her 24th year as the WHS Sport Coordinator, Sandy has a fantastic rapport with the students, long being the 'face of sport' and responsible for not only organising but also coaching many of the schools most successful sporting teams.

With a passion for promoting healthy lifestyle through sport and physical activity, Sandy has long provided our students with links to local sporting groups, developing lasting relationships with community Basketball, Netball, Cricket, Football and Lawn Bowls clubs, and is currently the school Netball, Football and Cricket Ambassador.

Presently, Sandy organises and leads the school’s major swimming, athletics and cross-country carnivals, promoting student leadership through the sports House system.

She has had many successes coaching, taking students to the SSV State Finals of school Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Netball, Soccer, Squash, Tennis, Table Tennis and Volleyball, and in doing so has become a much-loved and revered figure among staff and students alike.

Sandy is also President of the School Sport Victoria Upper Hume Division and convenes numerous sports at this level.

Many students attend Wangaratta High School due to the sporting culture that Sandy Newman has played a huge part in creating, and we congratulate her on this achievement.

Congratulations Ms. Sandy “Newmo” Newman and here are a few pictures to celebrate you.
