CBCA Book Week
What a celebration of all things reading! CBCA Book week was an absolute blast here at St Anthony's. We thank all our students, parents and staff for taking part! We started our week with three very talented guest speakers, Amy Adeney, Morris Gleitzman and Judith Rossell.
Amy Adeney
Amy is a former teacher who decided to follow her dreams of writing. She has written a range of books about her main character Tilda. Amy spoke to all students about the importance of re-reading their writing when they have finished, in order to catch mistakes and improve on ideas!
Judith Rossell
Judith is not only a great author, she is also a very talented illustrator as well! Judith creates full stories and then helps them come alive with her cartoons and colour. Judith worked with our Prep, Year One and Year Two students, discussing how illustrations can improve stories, before helping them draw some interesting monsters!
Morris Gleitzman
Morris is one of the most famous authors in Australia and had our teachers excited as much as our students when he came to visit. Morris talked about his trick to writing interesting stories, where he thinks of the worst possible thing that can happen to his characters and writes it. Unfortunate for his characters but so interesting and funny for his readers! Morris signed some books for us and even helped correct some student work!
Costume Parade
Our week finished off with our Book Week Parade which is always a genuine highlight! We loved seeing Astronauts, Wimpy Kids, Wizards from Hogwarts, soldiers and much, much more!
We thank all our parents for their hard work on these costumes and a special shout out to parents and younger siblings who attended the day in costume too!
Please see a very small sample of our costumes in the video below!
Writing Competition
We had an absolutely fantastic rate of participation in this competition and all staff were blown away by the creativity of our students!
Prizes were handed out at assembly today for our winners as well as all students who put forward an entry. Congratulations to our winners, but truly congratulations to all of our students, who should be very proud of their work.
Look for some samples of the writing in our next newsletter!
