 Term 3

Last week was an exciting week at Concord School! Students participated in a range of activities for Book Week including author visits from two Australian authors, Book Week Parades and an opportunity to come out of uniform dressed to the theme, ‘Dreaming with eyes open…’ Book Week is always a fantastic celebration of reading, writing, supporting local authors and exploring a range of reading material.

An absolute highlight of last week was the Year 11 Presentation Ball held at Ivanhoe Town Hall. This very special night is an amazing opportunity for students to be formally presented in front of their families, peers and teachers. They performed two choreographed dances and shared a special 3 course dinner with their friends. Then of course, they danced the night away as the DJ played their favourite tunes! Congratulations to our Year 11 students and their families on this special occasion. Thank you to the teachers and support staff for their incredible effort to make the night a wonderful success.

The countdown is on for the 7/8 Secondary Spectacular! On Friday 9th September our Year 7/8 singing and dancing superstars will put on an amazing performance of the musical sensation, Mama Mia! They have been rehearsing hard for the last two terms, learning their lines, practicing their dances and working together to produce a fantastic show. I have no doubt it will be a brilliant performance!

Also in their final stages of rehearsal, we have a dedicated and talented group of Secondary 9/10 and 11/12 students participating in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular performance at Melbourne Arena on Saturday 10th September. The annual Spectacular is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government primary and secondary school students. The Spectacular celebrates the enormous talent that exists in Victorian government schools, bringing together students in a musical extravaganza. We wish all our students the best of luck for their performances and thank all teachers and support staff for their commitment and dedication to enable these incredible experiences and opportunities to go ahead.

Next term we welcome back Flora Nixon from family leave on Mondays and Thursdays. I will continue in the acting Assistant Principal (Teaching & Learning) role for the remainder of the year and am excited to be working closely with Flora throughout the term.
