Holy Cross happenings

Holy Cross Feast Day

Yesterday we celebrated everything we love about our school! We started with a Prayer Gathering led by our SRC and our Preps also made a cameo appearance when one of their favourite songs was played.

We were reminded that Holy Cross is a special place where we pray, learn, celebrate, have fun, show kindness, make friends, play sport, get creative and laugh together.

Lots of those special qualities were shown yesterday when the children gathered in their House Groups for activities. The older children showed kindness and patience leading the younger ones around the school, visiting lots of classrooms playing games, singing, dancing, doing Kahoots and all round having a good time.

We were grateful that Brad Gauci braved the cold and volunteered his time to help us with the longest kick and handball competition. The PFA had warm sausages ready for after the footy activities, which the children were very grateful for. Thank you parent helpers.

A lovely way to end the term!

Junior Chef

                               Pancakes

The Junior Chefs of Holy Cross,  Ivy, Rose, Gabriella and Harley were asked to make pancakes for the first round of Junior Chef.  Firstly we prepared by practising pancakes.  At school in the canteen with Belinda, we learnt how to cook the perfect shaped pancakes and how to make sure they're all cooked evenly. One of the tricks we learnt from Gabriella’s mum Belinda, was how to fan a strawberry for presentation on top of the pancakes.

On Wednesday the 10th of August the Junior Chefs representing Holy Cross went to Sacred heart to cook pancakes in the Junior Chef competition. We were feeling excited but  nervous as well and we needed to try our best! We entered the Sacred Hearts Hospitality kitchen and there was a massive clock on the tv screen. We had 45 minutes to cook the pancakes. All of the ingredients were measured out for all of the teams ready on each bench for individual schools. The clock started and we all knew it’s time to cook! Ivy and Harley were on pancakes and Gabriella and Rose were on berry sauce as well as the decoration. At the end we finished it all when there was 7 minutes left . We did a great job with teamwork and cleaning up. The judges tried the pancakes and they came out and gave us some positive feedback.

Pasta

On the day of pasta, Tuesday 23rd of August we practised cooking homemade Pasta (fettuccine) from scratch one last time. Belinda helped and guided us so much again. We got a lot of  tips and tricks like a volcano swirl, what herbs were good to put on to decorate a plate and so much more. We loved making the pasta even though there were a few cut thumbs through the session.  Overall we are very proud of all the effort we put into it. We came 2nd last in the whole competition but came 1st in the pancakes in the first round.

We have gained a lot of cooking practice and learned a lot of tips and tricks in the kitchen. Now we will go home and use all this knowledge we’ve learnt to definitely keep cooking.

 Conclusion

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Belinda for giving up her spare time to help. We would also like to say a big thank you to Mrs McDonald and our principal Aoife. For preparing this special occasion and experience for us all.  Aoife was our taste tester, which we are sure she enjoyed every plate. We had a lovely time and it was a very positive experience.  We had an amazing time in the Junior Chef competition and we will be sure to continue cooking.
