Principal's Message

Good afternoon parents and carers,

Term 2 is rapidly drawing to a close with only one week left until the term break.  No doubt our students (and possibly some Leaders of Learning) are counting down the days.

This week has been an exciting week of learning outside the classrooms with a range of excursions and our annual K - 10 Athletics Carnival taking place.

Thank you to Miss Phoebe McGrath for the organisation of another successful athletics carnival at Boughton Oval.  After 2 years of non-parent involvement/attendance it was fantastic to see so many parents turn out in support of our students.  Participation from our students in the track events was at an all time high this year, which meant the race for top athletics house came down to the wire.  Congratulations to all the students of Goretti for taking out the glory this year.  Well done to all.

At this years carnival we were also very excited to show off our newly purchased Sporting House Tents which not only looked great but also provided the necessary protection from the weather for our students.

Today I was extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to travel with the Year 8 & 9 students on an excursion to Myall Creek, where students and staff continued their education around the historical and cultural significance of this important site.  A special thank you to Mrs Karen Tighe from the Catholic Schools Office, for leading the excursion and providing our students with greater insights into the area.  Although a very emotional and moving experience, all students and staff came away with a deeper level of understanding of this tragic event in our local history.  Thank you Karen for your time and commitment to our students.

Next week is another extremely busy week to end the school term as we celebrate NAIDOC week at St Philomena's.  A wonderful week of activities and events have been organised for our students and community throughout the week.  Please check Compass for further details regarding the many events.

Have a wonderful weekend, and I look forward to seeing lots of parents next week throughout our NAIDOC Week.

God bless

Jamie McDowall
