Foundation (Prep)

What a wonderful beginning to Term 3! It's been a fun filled week - With a woodwork incursion on Tuesday with our good friend, Anatoly. We learned some new words like: a hammer, a claw hammer head, pliers, nails, spanner, screwdriver, vice, and saw.

We have been learning about 'keeping ourselves safe in our community' in inquiry; so we used our new knowledge to create our very own emergency vehicles out of wood! We were so careful when hammering in the nails and wore safety glasses the whole time. We were able to choose our own emergency vehicle to make, and had lots of help from Anatoly, Mrs Clarke, Miss Dowel, Parminder and some grade 4 students, Joel and Miles, came to help us as well!

Anatoly showed us how to use the tools first and then we tried it ourselves! Look how careful we were with the tools! -->

Italian Day: On Thursday this week, we took part in Italian Day and dressed up! One of our great friends Ginevra came all the way from Italy to visit and speak to us!! We played lots of fun Italian games like pin the nose on Pinocchio and we read the story of Pinocchio. We also made some pasta art and ate biscotti and a hot chocolate. Yum!

In Literacy this week:

We have been focusing on the letter 'Tt' this week and the sound 'th' - as in feather. our shared reading was 'Harry the dirty dog".

We have been practising writing our lower case and upper case letters correctly on the line and talking about using interesting describing words in our writing.

In Maths this week:

We have been looking and seeing numbers everywhere! letterboxes, car number plates, phones, signs, doors, sport uniforms, computers; and why we need them. We have also been practising our mental maths, connecting the number names with the the numerals and their quantities when adding to or taking away from a group.

DON'T FORGET:

We will be celebrating the children’s first 100 Days of School on Friday the 22nd of July (Friday the second week of Term 3).

There will be some fun activities planned for the day. Students are invited to dress up but there is certainly no pressure if your child doesn’t feel comfortable. Please see the attached link for some ideas on costumes.

If you have any school related questions at any time during Term 3, please do not hesitate to contact me!
