Future Connect – Alice & Lyndsay

On the 2nd of March 2022, the Year 9s had mock interviews in session five for a job position at Caroline Springs McDonald's. In preparation for this, Lyndsay and Alice from Future Connect came to school to run a workshop for Year 9s on how to get ready for a job interview.

Lyndsay and Alice shared many tips and engaged the class to explore what they found difficult in writing a resume. Some students shared that describing themselves, their skills and strengths was most difficult. Alice suggested students to ask a good friend, family member or teacher how they would describe them and what their strengths are. Brainstorming this together with others can help not only build interviewing skills but also confidence. Sharing a resume with someone can also be very helpful for getting advice and a second opinion.

Lyndsay then encouraged students to consider the small but important details for interviews such as dressing appropriately and making sure the clothes they want to wear are clean and fit well before the interview. Lyndsay was very impressed that students already knew that the interview starts not when they walk into the interview but when they walk into the building.

Most Year 9s will be able to start applying for casual or part-time jobs this year and workshops such as these aim to prepare them for their future and build their confidence to succeed in their endeavours.
