Years 7-9
Yr 8
As we draw to a close on our final week of Term 2 for 2022 the Year 8s are reflecting on an action packed term. From interschool sports, MCG excursion, and the ACMI Spider verse expedition the students are now on the homestretch before they break for Mid term holidays.
Last week the students completed their Math and English exams to showcase all their hard work for the semester and their learnings throughout the term. Although exams can sometimes create some angst amongst our students they showed an immense amount of resilience and determination to try their best and as a result they the week ran very smoothly for our students.
On Monday the 20th of June the Year 8s went to ACMI to watch the film for the “Into the Spiderverse” the Year 8s film review topic for Term 3. It was great have so many students coming along and getting themselves prepared for Term 3.
We look forward to next term and starting a fresh new semester with our amazing year 8 Cohort!
We wish all our Year 8 students and families a safe and happy holiday break.

Yr 9
We have made it to the end of term and half way point of the year. This term has been jammed packed and fast paced – a massive well done to everyone in getting through!
Last week on Wednesday the 15th of June the year 9s went out on excursion for ‘Heroes Day’ with the Reach foundation in Collingwood. This was such a beneficial experience as the program broke down walls and barriers young people may face and opened eyes in inspiring change and support to all. The students followed their own heroes’ journey which encouraged self and peer reflection to set and achieve their goals for future.
In recent weeks we have also had interschool sports with year 9 netball and badminton teams going out. Well done to all who participated in their efforts and representing Brookside. Next term we will have basketball, table tennis and hockey try outs so please encourage students to keep an eye on the bulletin for sign ups.
We look forward to all that is to come in year 9 for Term 3 including outdoor education camp, experiential learning blocks, Lakeview transition beginning and much more!
Reminder for the term ahead. Please refer to Dale Thompson’s compass post regarding the set up of futures program: As a key component of the Futures program in Term 3, the experiential learning block for students in Year 9 at Brookside College, is an opportunity for students to learn with real world context. Every student in year 9 will have the opportunity to engage in experiences outside the classroom in an area of interest and passion. The experiential block will take place over a 5 week period and occur both onsite at school and out in the local community. Each class in year 9 will rotate through a different learning experience each week. These experiences will take place on the following dates: -
-Wednesday 13th July
- Wednesday 20th July
- Wednesday 27th July
- Wednesday 3rd August
- Wednesday 10th August
Further details regarding the 5 experiences are outlined in the compass post.
Thank you once again for everything this term. I wish you all the most amazing holiday and much deserved break to our students. It is bittersweet to go be returning to their very last semester at Brookside but I am excited to share it together and make it the best one yet!
Kind regards,
Chloe Karras
