AIS Elite Athlete Education Network

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) facilitates an Elite Athlete Education Network (EAEN) through partnered Universities, TAFE’s and other education providers, which helps to support elite athletes for the duration of their course study. This ensures their experience on campus is one that is rewarding, flexible and helps them acquire the right skills and qualifications needed to follow their passions and interests outside of sport.

Each AIS endorsed university will have an Elite Athlete Student Coordinator to support athlete experience on campus and implement the underpinning guiding principles of the Elite Athlete Education Network.

Endorsed members of the EAEN commit to a range of guiding principles and minimum standards through consultation with the AIS. This is a national network that supports Australian athletes within the high-performance sport system.

Here are the EAEN links and contacts within WA universities- sign up to their communication lists so you are kept in the loop about their offerings and get in touch with their representatives for more information:

YEAR 10 IN FOCUS

Subject selections

The John XXIII Year 11 Handbook has been updated and is accessible to parents via SEQTA. It is a great idea for students and families to spend some time discussing subject options for Year 11 and 12 as well as possible pathways after school- the two are very much connected. Year 10 students have been exploring pathways and careers in their weekly Pathway Planning classes and have experienced their Pathways Expo on Wednesday 29th June. Year 10 students and families have their Course Counselling Day on Wednesday 27th July at the College Ignatius Centre (library).

Students who wish to study Vocational Education and Training (VET) in 2023 (off campus, one day per week) at either North Metropolitan or South Metropolitan TAFE should apply to their desired course as soon as possible (applications close 31st August)- refer to the information and links to TAFE course by scrolling up to the earlier sections of this Pathways newsletter. Students who wish to study other VET courses offered at private Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), including Cert IV level qualifications, should get in contact with Ms. Hedley ASAP to let her know about their interests.

GENERATION research

Our Year 10 students have been invited to participate in the first year of a new longitudinal study of young people in Australia.  In 2022, the GENERATION study will focus on the activities and aspirations of Year 10 students – what they are doing now and what they think they would like to do in the future with study, training and employment.

Each student who completes the survey will receive an individual summary of their careers interests, while the school will receive a summary report of the plans of Year 10 students as a group.  No individual student will be identified in the school report.

There are plans for another 10 years of surveys in this longitudinal study. Students will be asked if they are interested in participating in later years of the study.  If students agree to participate in later years, they will be asked to provide their contact details.  Please note that it is not a requirement for students to participate in later years, and all questions in the survey are voluntary.

Further information about the study will provided to all Year 10 families along with a consent form.  If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Jane Hedley on 9383 0416.

All data will be kept strictly confidential and no individual student or school will be identified in published data or reports.

Successful applicants receive $7,000 in financial aid over 3 years. Scholars will also be matched with a dedicated corporate mentor from ABCN’s extensive list of corporate partners. Paramedicine degrees in VIC and Adelaide University

Paramedicine Degrees in Victoria in 2022

The Good Universities Guide states that paramedics provide pre-hospital emergency care, treatment, and specialised transport for patients - Good Universities Guide - Paramedic.

Working as an ambulance paramedic means that no two days are ever the same. What a paramedic does can be as varied as restarting a patient’s heart down to helping solve social welfare issues.  Ambulance paramedics are called when people feel they have no other options and are suffering what feels like an emergency to them. An interesting fact to remember when applying to become a paramedic is that the majority of the workload is not lights and sirens driving to save a patient's life. This job is more about helping people in their time of need as opposed to being a hero.

Visit Ambulance Victoria - Types of Paramedics to find out more.  Curtin University and ECU are the universities in WA who offer tertiary courses in Paramedicine. The following Victorian universities offer Paramedicine undergraduate degrees:
