STEM Drone Club

STEM Drone Club starts up again next week for Semester 2. The Club is open to any secondary student and no experience is necessary. The student must have a phone/tablet with wifi to be able to control the drone. We meet outside the St Louis Sport Centre staff office every Wednesday from 3:30pm until 4:30pm. If students have their own drones, then they are encouraged to bring them along.

The D&D Club

The D&D Club has also started up again for Semester 2. We currently have two branches of the same campaign running, with different Dungeon Masters (DMs). The DMs are Mr. Connellan and Nils Soderstrom (Year 10). All students involved in these campaigns are required to arrive in B Block next Thursday at 3:30pm.

The Chess Club

The Chess Club is up and running again too. The spreadsheet for the games is held behind the Librarian’s front desk. Students are expected to organise their games independently either through email or the Chess Club Team. The games are 20 minutes long and can be organised at a mutually agreeable time. The current tournament will run until the Magis Chess competition, which occurs later in Term 3. I will be visiting the Primary School next week with Max Watt to establish a Chess Club there. Max and I will initially teach the students about the chess pieces, how they move and the basic rules of a game. We will then organise a chess tournament for the primary school students. All primary students will be welcome to join.

Congratulations

It is so wonderful to see and hear about students at John XXIII College excelling in their sports. Congratulations to the following students on their wonderful achievements:

Mahalia and Harrison Upton both competed in the Indoor Cricket National competition in Melbourne. Mahalia’s team took out the grand final against Victoria and Mahalia was also selected in the All Star top 10 players of the tournament. Harrison's team had a fantastic competition undefeated until the grand final, narrowly missing out on the win.

Jake and Ben Scott competed in the third round of the 2022 WA Junior Surfing Titles. Ben had a great competition just missing out on the final and Jake finished second in the State and will compete at the national competition in Queensland later in the year. Well done boys!

Congratulations to Grace Johnston who has been selected to represent Western Australia in the 2022 Football (Soccer) 18s Girls Championship. This team will be competing at the School Sport Australia National Championships in Sydney in September.

We also congratulate Jacob Davila, Year 10, who was selected to represent WA on the U16 State Baseball Team.  The team travelled to Brisbane over the term break to compete in the Australian Youth Championship – U16 Baseball.  Competing against teams from other states over seven days, the team fought hard to bring home the Bronze Medal.  As a southpaw, Jacob specialises in the outfield positions and is a closing pitcher.  During the competition he batted .444 and pitched two scoreless innings to secure the wins for his team.

State Sporting Representation

In preparation for our Sports Awards Night later this year, we are looking to acknowledge our state and national sporting representatives.
