Term 3 Lunch Time Activities

(Nominations extended until Wednesday 27 July)

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School we recognise the importance of play in children’s lives and as a school, we work hard to promote positive and quality play opportunities.

The school playground supports the engagement of all students during lunchtime by providing a number of different spaces that are used for different purposes.

During lunchtime, our students also have the opportunity to join one of many lunchtime clubs or activities on offer, that supports the students in socialising with different groups and learning and enjoying different skills.

Lunchtime activities and clubs offered to give students the opportunity to engage and participate in activities that they enjoy and are passionate about, socialise with groups of multi-age students, ‘take a break’ from the playground or try something new.

Our teachers have offered to run clubs for the students as places where they can feel connected and part of a group that shares similar interests. We are blessed at St Joseph’s to have such dedicated, enthusiastic and talented staff at our school willing to share their time, skills and expertise with our students.

There are a number of activities and clubs available for students to participate in during Term 3, including Origami, Lego Masters, Rubik’s Cube, Chess, Puzzles and Blocks, STEM, Minecraft, Wool Craft, Dance Club, Singing Club, Music Band Club, Kindness Club, Veggie Patch Club.

These activities will be run by classroom teachers and conducted across the week, some open for specific levels of children others for anyone who is interested.

If your child would like to take part in one or more of these lunchtime activities during Term 3, please complete the form attached by Wednesday 27th July. Please note that there is an expectation that your child will commit and attend their chosen activity, as these will be part of our lunchtime teacher supervision roster.

If you have any questions please contact Mr Aguilera.

Athletics Carnival 2022

Our 2022 athletics carnival for Years 2-6 was a great day! Despite the cold weather and sprinkling of rain, for the most part, the rain held off and we came together to support, participate and enjoy rotating through the athletics events.

Thank you to the students, parents and family members for your contribution to our 2022 carnival. Once again the competitors' behaviour, attitudes, skills, determination, and athleticism was to be commended. The way they supported each other and showed enjoyment was a real highlight for staff to witness as too I am sure parent spectators or officials.

An enormous thank you is dedicated to our amazing volunteers who acted in an official capacity. Your support is very much appreciated. We know you worked all day tirelessly to help us overcome the time constraints of traveling to the Shellharbour venue.

Unfortunately this year we were unable to have our secondary student assistants. Without the volunteers on Tuesday, our carnival would not have run so efficiently. Please pass on our gratitude to anyone who assisted in any way great or small, some for the last time in 16 years! We will miss all of our carnival volunteers who are leaving SJB and know you have done a fantastic job passing on your wisdom.

We also wish to acknowledge our dedicated staff who worked tirelessly setting up, encouraging and supporting students while supervising all day without a break. What a great school community we have for everyone to go above and beyond so students get these opportunities!

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!

Those children who placed in the 800m races might be interested in the 1500m event information below.

1500M EVENT

The 1500m event (in boys and girls Junior, 11 years and Senior divisions) is included in the MacKillop athletics program for this year, 2022.

The event WILL NOT be added to the regional carnival at this time, however, it will be added to the selection trial day to be held at Beaton Park on Tuesday 16 August.  The event should be for athletes who have run this event before and have proof of time. This is not a 'come and try' event and athletes should meet the qualifying standards listed below before nominating. Please note that the 1500m and 800m events will be run on the same day at the selection trials.

To nominate for the 1500m event please use this link.   All nominations will be collated in age divisions and your school will be advised. If numbers are low, some of the 1500m events may be combined at the selection trials. The top two (2) place getters in each division will represent Wollongong at the MacKillop trials in September.

Nominations for the 1500m event close on Thursday 28 July 2022.

NSW Golf Tournament

Please find attached a flyer advertising the CPS (MacKillop & Polding) golf trials coming up on August 1 (Term 3 Week 3) at Blackheath Golf Club. Please note this is for experienced golf students. Registrations are through the CSNSW sports site and close on Friday 22 July.

Netball and Soccer Gala Day Cancellations

Catholic Education Office Wollongong's leadership team has made a decision that all gala days set for the near future are to be cancelled. The levels of staff and student absenteeism are at extreme levels so all non-pathway sport is suspended. Therefore, the soccer gala days set for Friday 29 July (including the backup on Friday 12 August) have been cancelled. This is unfortunate as the gala days, as you know, are so valued and enjoyed by our students in a time when exercise and activity are so important. It is, however, most important to consider the widespread nature of current illness and absenteeism and the predicted forecast that this pattern will continue over the next month or so.

Athletics, being a pathway event, will continue as planned with regional carnivals and selection trials as advertised on the CEDoW Sports web
