Café Culture
Recently the Year 10 Café Culture class were given the task to investigate some technological advancements that changed the way we cook in the home and in the café and restaurant industry. Below are two interesting articles that were written by Emma Andrew-Low and Olivia Weigand. Reading them may help you decide if you should buy one.

Fabulous Fast Foods
In our last few weeks of Year 9 Fast Fabulous Food, students worked completely independently, to make a meal using only the ingredients from the fridge and pantry.
Students used the FOODWISE Recipe Finder, typing in the ingredients they liked from the ingredients we had on the table. The website suggested recipes, from their chosen ingredients, and students could add or delete items, to make it their own. Students were creative, developed valuable and necessary life skills and enjoyed a delicious lunch. The website is fantastic and is useful for families too, particularly when they can’t think what to cook for dinner – you can find the website here: Recipe Finder | FOODWISE
This lesson was the perfect end to our Sustainability unit too, as it enabled students to use the ingredients they had, minimised food waste, and saved money. Not to mention it was creative and fun, with students modifying the recipe on the go. From a stock staple of ingredients consisting of noodles, rice, pasta, a variety of vegetables and sauces, pork, chicken and beef mince, students made a wide variety of dishes, including Spaghetti Bolognese, Chicken Stir-fry, Pork & Vegie Noodles, Crispy Chicken and Vegetables, Oven Chips with mini Chicken Schnitzels and Chicken and Vegetable Pasta.
These students definitely have the skills to cook the family meal, which I totally encourage, not to mention, they’re great at doing the dishes too!
Happy Cooking!
