Year 9

All Year 9 students have experienced the social, mental and physical challenges of lockdown. Throughout Term 3 we have managed to maintain some normality, a continuation of learning programs, following routines and having some fun along the way. Motivation has been difficult, and that is when positive education and growth mindset can help get us through. We have adjusted how we learn, teach and socialise. Hopefully you all had the opportunity to ‘recharge your batteries’ over the break. It is vital to actively attend to our wellbeing.
Here are some simple ideas from Headspace that I hope students and their families can adopt:
Healthy Eating
It’s important to have a good, balanced diet with less processed foods and more healthy options (such as vegetables fruit, whole grains and water). This can help with sleep, energy levels and general health and wellbeing. Eating well improves your mood and overall health and wellbeing. More information can be found HERE.
Sleep and Routine
Getting a good night’s sleep helps you feel energised, focused and motivated. Developing a sleeping routine can help you focus better. To do this, try to wake up around the same time each day, get out of bed when you wake up and go to bed around the same time each night. Sleep is incredibly important to support your mental health. More information can be found HERE.
Social Activity and Involvement
Social relationships are really important to our health and wellbeing. Spending time with friends is also important for keeping and building existing friendships. Whilst lockdown makes catching up with friends more difficult – catching up via social media and going for walks with friends who live nearby within COVID restrictions are still possible. Feeling connected to others builds our social health. More information can be found HERE.
Getting into Life
Play is important for staying mentally healthy. Devoting time to just having fun can recharge your battery, revitalise your social networks and reduce stress and anxiety. Having fun, laughing and being less focused on the negative aspects of our lives lift our spirits. There are many aspects of our lives out of our control, but not everything is beyond our influence. Getting into life can help boost your mood and give you a sense of achievement. More information can be found HERE.
