Yarrabah School and Kilbreda College – Community Partnership
Once again, COVID-19 has significantly impacted our current program with Yarrabah School. In order to facilitate progress, the Year 12 students are working on the mosaic artwork at the College.
We will participate in a Zoom session with our Yarrabah friends. In the future, we look forward to meeting up again and unveiling the finished pieces.
VCAL Showcase
On Tuesday evening September 14, the VCAL Year 12 students presented their individual projects. Given COVID-19 restrictions, the students were required to deliver their presentations from home.
Amelia, Olivia, Molly, Jerzie, Ewa, Jasmine, Ellie, Ashlie and Teagan were outstanding! The students used technology efficiently and effectively to showcase their achievements. Their work was well-planned, and their presentations conveyed the many and varied learning experiences they have taken part in over their VCAL journey. The students demonstrated their readiness to move beyond the Kilbreda gates with confidence and purpose. They expressed their love and gratitude for those special people who have nurtured them and shaped their lives in immeasurable ways.
Thank you to Mr Matthew Graham, Audio Visual and Lighting Technician, whose dedication, diligence and skill enabled the evening to run smoothly.

Enrichment Day - Mock Interviews
The start of Term 4 began with our VCAL students participating in a mock interview process. We had the organisation STRIDE connect with us via zoom. STRIDE provides a framework for organising mock interview programs for students.
The students were paired with someone from industry and were sent to a break-out room. Each student had a 15 minute interview and then received feedback on their application, presentation and performance.
They were assessed in the following areas.
- Presentation
- Introduction
- Body Language/Eye contact
- Clear/Engaging
- Preparation for Interview
- Resumé
The VCAL students have been working on their oral presentation skills throughout the year. The students found the process very useful and then were able to get some feedback from their interviewers.
We were very proud of how the students performed.

Mathematics Cookie Assessment
For Mathematics this year we were learning the basics about shapes again. Due to lockdowns we were not able to have fun in class and play with clay, however Ms Limo came up with an idea that we could make our own cookies with certain measurements and very good recipes.
After making the shapes with the cookie dough we were able to have some fun with the extra cookie dough and make all different shapes. It was really nice to be able to do something that was not on the computer and be able to decorate the cookies in any way we wanted.
