Welcome to Term 4

Ms Davies & Mrs Murphy

WELLBEING

We are very much looking forward to having everyone back together at school very soon, and we realise this is a challenging time.

We will be continuing our focus on the wellbeing of our students during this initial remote learning period while also transitioning them back into the classroom and whole school environment. This will remain a priority in order to offer our complete support and guidance to the students and their families throughout the term.

We will work on cooperative learning and our STAR values across the school setting with the opportunity to reflect, have regular brain breaks, be mindful and enjoy re-establishing our relationships at school.

LITERACY

We have started letter writing this week and will be looking at other conventions of writing such as persuasive pieces and narrative structures.

We will of course continue our structured literacy focus on phonics, daily reading and writing tasks.  We will be reviewing handwriting and structuring of writing pieces.

MATHS

We started our topic on money this week which the students have really enjoyed learning about! We will move into topics including multiplication and division, volume and capacity and place value while building on number skills daily.

RELIGION

Our topic ‘Jesus and Scripture’ will look at explaining God’s relationship with people, interpreting and reflecting on various scriptural images of God and identify those to which they have a personal connection. We will explore the stories of ‘Jesus and the Children’ and ‘Sowing the Seeds’. We will also explore the unit of Advent as a time of waiting and preparing to celebrate as a family and community through the Nativity story.

SCIENCE TOPIC

Our new science-based topic unit is called “Light and Sound, Push and Pull ”.  This is an exciting topic that will explore the way objects move and develop an understanding that light and sound are produced by a range of sources and can be sensed. The students will be exposed to various learning experiences where they will gain the knowledge and understanding to eventually Design, Make and Evaluate a Musical Instrument of their own.
