Welcome to Term 4

Mrs Smith

We have so much to look forward to this term, with the long-awaited return to face to face learning and rehearsals for the fantastic Mary Poppins production!

English

We will be looking at a variety of genres this term and within each genre, the students will continue to develop their understanding of grammar, punctuation and sentence structures. They will also continue to work on comprehension skills and vocabulary building.

Maths

This Term we will continue to revisit all four operations, by focussing on the strategies and the application of these to real-world problems. The students will demonstrate their understanding of these operations through our other topics of Money and Financial Maths, Time and Fractions and Decimals.

Topic - “May the Force be with you”

Within this unit, students will develop their understanding of heat and its effects on solids and liquids and will begin an understanding of energy flows through simple systems. To provide context to their learning, students will explore key concepts such as balanced and unbalanced forces, contact and non-contact forces and friction and gravity and explore these in a variety of practical ways, such as through ‘The Circus Crew’ incursion we hope to have, where students will observe and learn some simple circus tricks that demonstrate these concepts.

Religion - “Scripture and Jesus” & “Advent”

In “Scripture and Jesus”, the students will focus on analysing scriptural texts from the Old & New Testaments where they will reflect on some of the main characters in parables and explore connections with their life.

In our “Advent” unit, the students will identify the rituals, symbols, events and actions of Advent and Christmas. They will reflect on the Advent message through Scripture and prayer and explore the Christmas story, its message and its meaning. They will reflect upon what Christmas means to us as Catholics and how Christmas reveals the coming of peace to our world.
