Welcome to Term 4

Miss Daws

Welcome to Term 4! The students have begun the term focused and determined in their learning online, however, I believe we are all very much looking forward to returning to the classroom. We have a busy term ahead and I am excited to share with you the learning that will be taking place in 4D.

English

Through Narrative and Persuasive text types, students will focus on consolidating their writing skills, specifically sentence structures, grammar and punctuation. In addition, students will continue to build their comprehension strategies, such as analysing and evaluating, to expand on their content knowledge and in turn support the application of subject-specific language in their writing.

Maths

The four operations and their application to problem-solving activities will be strongly focused on throughout the term. Our units such as ‘Money & Financial Maths’ and ‘Fractions & Decimals’ will provide additional opportunities for students to practice and apply these skills in a range of contexts.

Topic

Our unit, “May the Force be with you”, will develop students' understanding of heat and its effects on solids and liquids and will begin an understanding of energy flows through simple systems. To provide context to their learning, students will explore key concepts such as balanced and unbalanced forces, contact and non-contact forces and friction and gravity and explore this in a variety of practical ways, such as through ‘The Circus Crew’ incursion we hope to have, where they will observe and learn some simple circus tricks that demonstrate these concepts.

Religion

Our units this term are ‘Scripture & Jesus’ and ‘Advent & Christmas’. The students will focus on analysing scriptural texts from the Old & New Testaments where they will reflect on some of the main characters in parables and explore connections with their life. In our “Advent” unit, the students will identify the rituals, symbols, events and actions of Advent and Christmas. They will reflect on the Advent message through Scripture and prayer and explore the Christmas story, its message and its meaning. They will reflect upon what Christmas means to us as Catholics and how Christmas reveals the coming of peace to our world.
