Welcome Back Preps

Welcome back families! We hope you have managed to have some rest over the holidays, although the activities are very limited. Term 4 is going to be very exciting for Prep; along with all our learning, we will be working hard on our Mary Poppins scene, preparing for Grade 1 and settling back in after a long time online. We can't wait to have you and the children back onsite!

In our Phonics lessons this term we are continuing to develop our blending and segmenting skills. We are expanding our digraph knowledge and applying these new sounds to reading more complex words and sentences. In our Reading sessions, we will continue to read and explore a variety of genres as a whole class and in small groups. The focus for the children this term will be developing their comprehension skills of retelling, understanding the purpose of a text and inferring meaning to answer comprehension questions linked to the texts.

In Writing lessons, we will be preparing for grade 1 by expanding our grammatical understanding of words and learning how they can be sorted into conjunctions, nouns, adjectives, verbs, and focus on applying them in their pieces of writing. We will continue to focus on different genres of writing for example reports, stories, and recounts. 

In Maths this term we will be consolidating our calculations strategies for addition, subtraction, and division. We will begin to explore money, fractions and our understanding of algebra patterns. We will apply these to different problems and develop our independence when trying to solve mathematical problems.

This term our Topic unitis Physical science. We are exploring different forces around us and how things move. We will be designing and making our own car toy. Please send in any toilet roll holders, egg cartons and lids from milk cartons! Thank you.

Our Religion units this term are ‘Scripture & Jesus’ and ‘Advent & Christmas’. The students will focus on retelling scripture readings and learning about what Catholics do in advent and why Christmas is such a special time of year in the church's calendar.
