Hola comunidad de Agua Salada

Dear Saltwater families,

I look forward to and can’t wait to see all the students smiling faces again! We will have a great end to the year this term by having a lot of fun, working together, and learning new things.

As part of the Spanish program at Saltwater P-9 College we learn about:

  • Different facts about Spanish-speaking countries.
  • The locations of Spanish countries around the world, using maps.
  • Spanish cultural tradition and celebrations.

One of the most important days in the Spanish community is El día de los Muertos.

WHAT IS EL DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS?

El Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd each year, primarily in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, Nicaragua, Peru and Venezuela. It is a blend of both indigenous and religious traditions and focuses on remembering loved ones who have passed.

‘Day of the Dead’, is celebrated in various ways through, special foods, costumes and decorations. The most iconic image for ‘Day of the Dead’, is l the festive sugar skulls, which people can eat or use as decorations. Some families create offerings in their homes for their loved ones. At night, families go to the cemetery, where family members are buried to clean up the grave sites and spend time together, sharing memories and enjoying each other's company.
