Visual Arts

Maria Nardo and Nishani Sooknandan

In Visual Art over the past two weeks, we have continued our remote teaching focusing on different global celebrations including Halloween and Diá de los Muertos.  As global citizens students have had the opportunity to combine their Visual Art skills and techniques and create and explore the use of the elements and principles of artmaking while creating works connected to Halloween and Diá de los Muertos.  Students were able to use their own voice, choice and agency in choosing the work they created this week to explore these global celebrations.

Students were also asked to submit work for the Lions Peace Poster Competition.  Students were risk-takers when they created their version of a peace poster for the Lions, ‘Peace Poster’ competition to celebrate the idea of peace focusing on the theme, ‘We are all connected’. Although only students over the age of 12 were able to submit work to the Lions club competition, we asked all students to create their own version of the Peace poster as part of a Saltwater P-9 College Art competition.

This week we were delighted to be notified that our very own Sarah Ho (6A) was selected as the winner of the City of Wyndham Lions Club Peace Poster competition.  We would like to extend our congratulations to Sarah who will now be invited to attend an official ceremony to present her with this award.  Sarah’s artwork will also be submitted into the Regional Lions Club competition.  We wish Sarah the best of luck in the next stage of this competition.

For the remainder of our students, who were risk-takers and internally submitted their work, winners for Saltwater’s internal competition will be announced next week as well as the winners names being published in the next newsletter.  We are delighted to share some of these fantastic works for your enjoyment as well as the winning piece by Sara Ho.

We look forward to welcoming the students back to the Art studios in the coming weeks and a big thanks to all parents, guardians, family, friends and students who have been so committed to completing artwork during yet another remote learning period!

Thank you!
