Year Six News

Written by the Year Six Team

Dear parents,

On Friday there was so much excitement and enjoyment as the students from Year Six were back on-site for the day. It was an amazing experience seeing everyone face to face and seeing how much everyone had grown. Both teachers and students enjoyed the day immensely.

Virtual Camp

Last week our Year Six students joined together and participated in a ‘Virtual Camp’, that took them on a virtual trip of a lifetime. The students were full of enthusiasm as they followed the theme of ‘Destination Unkown’ and virtually travelled on their own airlines to visit different virtual locations throughout the week. They experienced the different cultures and took virtual tours around each destination visiting Disneyland, Ireland, Maui, Ireland, and the Space Station.

To document all their knowledge, the students completed a passport journal that included photos, videos, and written recounts of their experience:

  • They created their own rocket ship to blast off in space;
  • They learned about the interesting history of the Hula;
  • They planned their own trip to New York City on a budget;
  • They enthusiastically learned the Irish Jig;
  • They got creative designing their own theme park for Melbourne.

As well as visiting these destinations the students all joined together for daily breakfast exploring different cuisines from around the world. They enjoyed creating and modifying the recipes for french toast, bagels, greek yoghurt, and a big breakfast complete with eggs, bacon hash browns, and more. It was amazing to see so many families join in every morning, we definitely have a few future master chefs in the making.

In true camp style, it wouldn’t be complete without the nightly activities to keep everyone laughing. The students tested their knowledge with trivia, shared family recipes at our cultural dinner, told jokes and stories whilst toasting marshmallows around a fire, and were courageous risk-takers performing at our talent show. From all the teachers, we would like to extend our great appreciation to all the students and families who made our virtual camp week such a success.

Reminders

  • A reminder that hats are now required to be worn by students on-site during recess and lunch as we are now in Term 4. If students are not wearing hats they will be encouraged to sit under shaded areas.
  • When we are back on site, a reminder for students to come with their MacBook charged.

Thank you,
