Year Four News

Written by the Year Four Team

Dear Year Four families,

What a tremendous return to onsite learning. All of our students have shown that they are resilient, adaptable, and balanced as they have commenced their return.

Whilst on-site the Year Four students have been working on rebuilding connections with one another and keeping their wellbeing a focus point. Each class has spent the time exploring different scenarios around the changes that have occurred since being at school last. Students were able to come up with solutions to problems surrounding anxieties due to these changes to keep our peers feeling happy and safe.

Mathematics

Continuing on from remote learning, Year Four students are exploring the concept of patterns and algebra. The students have been taking it back to basics by learning their number facts and long and short division strategies. This is a crucial first step to move into algebraic patterns where students have been working on finding the missing value of x. The students have taken the opportunity to be open-minded, reflective when showing how they can be a thinker when approached with a challenging question.

Writing

Writing workshop groups have proven to be a success with students showing enthusiam and high levels of engagement in lessons. With varying abilities, these workshops have targeted students' specific learning goals against the continuum to further develop their writing. Students selected goals to explore the concepts of sentence structure, vocabulary, spelling, description, and show don’t tell.

Reading

During reading, we have been exploring non-fiction texts including their features, key information, and how to locate the main idea. Students have been finding out a range of new interesting facts and recognising the structure which will support their writing lessons around procedural texts.

Incursion

After much delay, we finally got to partake in their Urban Planning incursion. Students had to investigate needs and opportunities, generate and evaluate ideas, plan, manage, produce and evaluate designed solutions. The students became engineers for the day and were prompted to consider environmental, social, and economic factors as well as consider aesthetic and functional requirements when building their city. This was such a fun day, and all the students should be proud of themselves as they demonstrated being balanced, inquirers, and knowledgeable throughout the day.

A big congratulations to all our students for being so resilient by returning on-site and getting back into classroom routines. They have shown strength in adapting to change and following the new mask and SunSmart policy.

Thank you,

Ms Assaf, Ms Kotevski, Mrs Morrison, Ms Kreymborg and Mr Robinson
