Around the College

Junior School

Year 5 students participated in the Junior School Leadership Day this week, an introduction to the leadership program that they will be involved in this term. Year 5 discussed what it means to be a leader, and how they might contribute to our school community in 2022. They completed a range of fun activities, watched a movie (with popcorn), and enjoyed a pizza lunch.

Early Stage One have been learning about how they can communicate and express themselves. Kindergarten students were recently challenged to use their imagination, communication skills, and creativity to turn cardboard boxes into something marvelous. A great deal of fun was had as boxes became flying cars, houses, robots, and secret labs.

Secondary School

Year 11 students participated in a host of academic workshops aimed at preparing them for the year ahead. Topics included; strategies to reduce stress and increase motivation, efficiency in organisation, study, and learning, post-school pathways, and all things HSC/IB.

Mr Mannion's Year 9 STEM class have been busy building rockets. Students have been trialing various designs to determine optimal features such as; the volume of water, nose cone weight, fin shape, and nose cone shape. Following the steps of the engineering design process, students test, try and learn from both their successes and failures.

Year 7 Technology students have been developing their computational thinking and digital literacy skills as they create their own coding projects. Working with Gantt charts and Grok programming, students have produced some excellent work, including monsters designed to eat, sleep and communicate emotions.

Mrs Kjaer's Year 10 Child Studies are currently completing a food and nutrition module. Last week's double lesson was happily spent in the food tech rooms creating snacks that could be consumed by young children.

Congratulations Karin

A number of our senior school students participated this year in The 11th Annual ANZAC Day Writing Competition. Congratulations to Year 9 student Karin, whose submission resulted in her winning the South Division Secondary Schools section of the competition. Karin has recently been awarded a certificate and book, signed by Michael McCormack, in recognition of her success. Her poem has also been published in the ANZAC Day Commemorative Booklet.
