Whole School

Western Australian Debating League

Round Two

A wise person once said that if you want to sound like you know what you’re talking about; know what you’re talking about. When our debaters were confronted with this week’s topic; That this House would abolish the US Electoral College, they set about finding out about….the Electoral College. Turns out it’s an arm of the voting system of America, enshrined in its constitution and set in that stone since 1787.

With only a week between debates and, undaunted, our Year Nines worked through lunch times and after school to prepare their case not to abolish this somewhat outdated and arguably redundant system of American voting, since they had been assigned the negative side of the argument.

Hardy Croucher, Dannielle Frost and River Waters managed to convince the adjudicator that their model to amend, rather than abolish the Electoral College was less disruptive and presented a workable solution for the best possible future for America. Their preparation, the structure of their speeches and their team work took them to our second victory for the season against a North Albany Senior High School team.

It was great to see non-speaking team members in attendance offering support as well as parents and grandparents who watched on admiringly of their students- and the adjudicator- who was zoomed into the room from Perth!

We look forward to having two whole weeks to prepare for the next round. The topic; That This House regrets the rise of facial recognition technology where we will argue the affirmative against St Joseph’s College. Thinking caps on, team!

MSWA Albany Swim

GSG8BKrustyKrabs is making a big splash this Saturday 15 May 2021. MSWA Albany Swim is going to be held at Albany Leisure and Aquatic Centre. Thank you so much to everyone who has sponsored our swimmers so far.

I believe this is a very friendly, fun and extremely worthwhile charity event to raise money to make a difference to people living with neurological conditions in the Great Southern region. We have been supporting this event for over five years now.

We have raised over $3000 so far and we would like to aim to raise $4000 now. To fulfill our goal, we need your support to sponsor our team. Please use the following link: https://www.mswaswim.org.au/gsg-8-b-krusty-krabs to support our fundraising. If you have any questions regarding the involvement of GSG students,  please email atsuko.kagi@gsg.wa.edu.au
