From the Chaplain

As well as being the Chaplain here at GSG, I also teach.  I currently teach the Year Twelve Certificate IV Business class who had their Mother’s Day stall last week.  Charis, Connor, Grace, Rhori, Aramis and Caitlin helped make, package and sell gifts to the Junior School students.  Grace and her mother made loads of beautiful bath bombs, Caitlin painted some cups with her family and Charis and her mother sewed some lavender scented pillows for drawers.  Bunnings donated some gloves and solar lights and Terry White Chemist in Chester Pass Road donated a whole box of goodies.

It was interesting watching the students coming up to buy gifts for their Mums. The Pre-Primary students were so excited and we had to try and stop them ripping open their mum’s gift to see exactly what was in it.  The younger students also tended to see things that they liked, with one little girl saying, ‘Oh, make-up, I love make-up, I’m getting this.’  It was fun to watch the Year Six girls especially, who spent ages going through all the make-up/toiletry gifts to see what was in them and chatting amongst themselves, saying, ‘No, mum wouldn’t like that. This one is nice.’

In the end we made just over $500 profit and next week the students will begin a research task to decide what local charity they think should receive the money.  Ideas so far include: Young House, Royal Flying Doctor Service, Men’s Shed, Red Cross and the Women’s Refuge.  If anyone has any other ideas of who could benefit from the money, please don’t hesitate to email me. The students will present their findings to Mr Orr, Mr Sawle and Mr Raven who will then make the final decision of where the money will go to.

I hope that you all had a great Mother’s Day and felt appreciated and loved.  Thank you to all who donated items to the stall and who bought gifts and supported us.  In a couple of weeks' time we will let everyone know where the money was donated to.
