New materials:

In this day and age we receive many virtual resources to add to our “unseen” collections. Today I have uploaded 111 new links to useful websites into our catalogue. These are curated by educational experts and sites are selected based on how well they enable us to learn topics as defined by Australian or Victorian curriculum content. The topics for this month that commence with the letter A are

Aboriginal peoples - Civil rights

Aboriginal peoples – Dreaming

Aboriginal peoples – History

Arthur, King (Legendary character)

Australia - History - 1788-1851

Authors, Muslim

Our physical book collection is also enhanced by materials added to the collection by us but selected by experts in children’s literature and research needs. Once a month we get a box of beautiful books from Lamont. You can see what has come in recently (or for as long as we have been subscribed by clicking here. The June titles are currently being added to the relevant collection by Miss Welst.

Diversity is much stronger than if we were the only people selecting topics, which strengthens our resource bank. We also offer students at both Senior and Junior School access to Wheelers e-books, and the Senior students also have access to audiobooks.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions you may have via email msimkin@hamiltoncollege.vic.edu.au.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge:

The value of reading cannot be overestimated! Every subject at school is easier for those who read widely. Life is easier for students who have immersed themselves in issues that may be faced by others as they develop more empathy by “walking a mile” in other “peoples’ shoes”.

To this end the annual reading challenge can be a great incentive for our students. So far we have no Senior School students enrolled. They just need to ask, and I will set them up.

Junior School heroes:

Year 1: Maelys, Violet Shrive and Maggie Wallis

Year 2: Tommy Brown and Johnny Fenton

Year 3: Ruby Price

Year 4: Camilla Edgar, Georgia Kennedy, Alvina Nadeem, Evie Templeton and Jessica Templeton

Year 5: Harley Kearns

Well done!
