Mr Irwin's Message

Mr. Irwin's Message

Hi everyone and welcome to this week's newsletter

Education Support Appreciation

Sunday May 16th is ES Appreciation Day. It’s a timely day for us at Teesdale as we celebrate Mrs. Watts' final day at Teesdale on Friday.

We have a dedicated team of ES in roles of Inclusion, Administration, IT, OSHC and the Kitchen Garden Program. Without them our school would not be the place it is and be able to provide the range of supports and learning  that we currently do.

So on behalf of everyone in our community I want to thank all of our ES team for the hard work and dedication they have for our students and school. If you See one of our many ES staff around the school this week, make sure you take the time to say thanks as well!

Annual Report 2020

At last school council our 2020 Annual Report was tabled for Councillors. I’ve  included it as an attachment here to share with you. There are some really pleasing outcomes from this report that show we continue to improve as a school as we grow.

It was particularly pleasing to see that our Parent and Staff satisfaction were well above state averages in what was a very difficult year. I hope this is an indication that in a very challenging year we did the very best we could to support everyone in our community.

It was also pleasing to see a big improvement in areas of the student attitude to school survey, particularly the managing of bullying. School’s aren’t a sterile environment and never will be but as a school we want to be seen as being proactive and responsive when issues do arise so that our school is a safe and happy place for everyone.

NAPLAN

Students in Years 3 and 5 are completing NAPLAN assessments this week. Whilst we don’t build these up individually for students we do value the information it provides us to validate the approaches we are using at Teesdale to support all students.

OSHC

A reminder tomorrow that Bella and Caroline from Community OSHC will be in tomorrow afternoon from 4:00pm -6:00pm for drop-ins for anyone who wants to discuss or needs help enrolling in OSHC from May 24th. This date is fast approaching so please make sure you’ve completed enrolment prior to this date. Community OSHC are also able to provide all day care for our upcoming Curriculum Day on Tuesday June 15th.

Ask Mr Irwin - Parking

This week’s Ask Mr Irwin is around pick-up parking. So here we go!

Firstly, there are some areas of parking around the school that are strictly not allowed as they are in breach of road rules. These are the No standing area on Sutherland Street, which stretches all the way along the school on the residential side of the road. This is not only a no standing area, it isn't a safe area to park. It’s dangerous for children to cross the road when it’s busy and also dangerous for cars reversing out from allocated car parks. If cars continue to park in the No Standing area I’ll ask our local police officer to come and visit to ensure this doesn’t continue.

It’s also important to not have cars parked in front of the fire hydrants out the front. These are in use and could require immediate access in the case of a fire.

So far as strategies to avoid the end of the day rush; the simplest I like to reiterate is that after school the playground has staff supervision until 3:30. There are a small group of families who take advantage of this by arriving between 3:20 and 3:30 and are able to park right at the front of school. This is a perfectly safe and suitable way to beat the rush at the end of the day. If we had another 10-20 families do this it would significantly ease congestion around the school at pickup time.

The reality is, for a school our size we are fortunate to have the amount of parking we do. Many schools are extremely envious of the amount of parking we do have to manage drop-off and pickup at school. The answer to parking at school isn’t for more parking, and it isn’t to make use of no standing space on Sutherland street or in front of the fire hydrants. It is to be patient, come a little later, make an arrangement for your child to walk some of the way home if possible and remember that no rush to get somewhere after school or get a good park should compromise on road rules or student safety.

Bye for Now.

School Photo Day

Annual school photos including sibling photos were taken at Teesdale Primary School by Arthur Reed Photos on Thursday May 4th, 2021.

There is no need to return any forms or money to school.

Unique image codes have been issued to all students on/after photo day so families can register online to view images when they become available in the webshop.

Registration is simple, just follow the 3 simple steps on your child’s personalised flyer once you receive it and remember to add the codes for all your children attending this school.

Even if you registered last year, it’s important that you register again this year using your child’s 2021 image code to link their images for the current year with your contact details.

When images are ready to view and in the webshop, all parents who have registered will be notified by SMS and email.

Once registered, please wait for notification that 2021 images are online to view before making your purchase.

If you have not received a flyer with your child's registration code, please contact the school office.
