Co-curricular - Junior Sport

Congratulations to all our Junior members of the College community for their stellar performance supporting the 1st XI Football and 1st XV Rugby teams. The boys were able to create an amazing atmosphere and one that nearly got both sides over the line against some stiff opposition. It was a throwback to yesteryear, with traditional rivals, playing in closely contested matches, and a large crowd filling Breen Oval. It was a great representation of what school sport should be. Long after the scores are forgotten from last weekend, memories of the atmosphere, comradery and passion from the day will live on. Last Saturday really displayed what St Patrick’s College is all about and was the living embodiment of our inclusive community.

A big thank you must go out to all staff involved in organising Saturday’s Supporters’ Day, and others who gave up a large portion of their Saturday to help supervise the boys. Thanks also to all players on the day for putting on high-quality performances and providing us with such an entertaining spectacle. Lastly, the biggest thank you goes to our students in Years 5, 6 and 7 for their unwavering passion in support of our Seniors. Anyone involved with these boys could not be prouder of their efforts and the atmosphere they created. It seemed like a long time between Supporters’ Days and last Saturday certainly made it worth the wait.

There are several CIS representative trials coming up for the Junior School boys in Rugby League, Rugby Union, and Touch Football. We wish all boys involved all the best and hope that they make the most of these opportunities. Good luck boys.

With Week 5 well and truly in full swing, we draw our attention to the upcoming House Athletics Carnival, to be held at the end of this term. Over the next few weeks, boys will be invited to trial for field events such as Shot Put, High Jump and Discus. Unfortunately, due to time constraints on the day, only ten boys in each age group will be able to compete in these events. Trials will determine the list of competitors for the day. The Discus competition will be held outside carnival day, for safety reasons. Trials will occur during lunches and boys will need to listen to announcements for event updates. Details of the carnival will be released closer to the carnival date.

Good luck to all our teams heading into Round 5 of Winter sport. Please make sure you know where you are playing, and the time of your game as there have been many changes from the original draft draw.
